Tonight Ken Ludwig's Warriors (3-6) host the second place Woodstock Blue Streaks (8-1) who trail conference leading Crystal Lake South (9-0) by only one game. The Streaks are the tallest team in the conference with 6-6 Jerry DeWane, 6-5 Todd Burns, and 6-3 Jamie Ericksen rounding out tlie front line. One of the top guards in the FVC, Bill Firnbach will team up with eith Mark Eigby or Greg Bradshaw in the back court. Woodstock is coming off a fine weekend where it all but ended Crystal Lake Cen tral's hopes for a title by turning back the Tigers 67-47 on Saturday. On Friday, the Streaks won 65-54 over yet to win Crown. Woodstock has an overall record of 13-2 and won the first meeting against McHenry 63-35 earlier this season. AT CENTRAL TUESDAY On Tuesday, the Warriors journey down the blacktop to the fieldhouse to take on Amie Kay's Central Tigers. The Tigers were a strong contender until their loss to Woodstock last week dropped them to 5-4 in the FVC. Six-foot-six center Jim Teuber leads Crystal Lake and 6-4 forward Steve Hill adds plenty of rebounding strength. The three other starters are Scott and Rusty Beck, and Joe Graves. Lee Stromberg, at 6-5, is the Tigers sixth man and adds plenty of punch when he's in the lineup.. Crystal Lake Central defeated McHenry 45-41 earlier this season at Buckner gym. The Tigers , are 12-7 overall, while the Warriors are 3-12. Dick Rabbitt ELGIN -- Johnsburg's wrestling team concluded its regular season schedule Tuesday night by whipping Elgin-St. Edward 45-21. The victory leaves Don March's squad with a final record of 8-6 as it prepares for District competition at Harvard on Friday, Feb. 12. "I look forward to the district meet because of our much improved record and skill level this season," said March. The Skyhawks were 4-10 in their first year of the program.' The biggest worry now for Johnsburg is the injury sustained to senior captain Joe Kalisek who was hurt during an evening practice session. The status for the standout 138-pounder in still uncertain for District competition. By weight class, here are the results against St. Ed ward: 98 lbs Johnsburg forfeited to Byron Theylen (E). 105 lbs Dave Haisma won by forfeit against St. Edward. 112 lbs Mike Cahill lost a 6-1 decision to Scott Oesterlin (E). ; 119 lbs Lars Swanson was pinned by Pat Sheehy (E) in the first period. 126 lbs Dave Moravec won by fall against Larry Sliwa (E) in the first period. 132 lbs Mike Hurckes led John Sheehy (E) 12-1 before pinning him at 2:30 in the second period. "Sheehy had beaten Hurckes earlier, so now this win should con tribute greatly to a top seed at districts," said March. 138 lbs Joe Kalisek pinned Phil Reedy (E) in the first period. Wauconda Wins Girls Tourney 145 lbs Brett Everett decisioned Dave Schodin (E) 5-2. 155 lbs Bentley Treat was pinned by Frank Dudgeon (E) in the third period. 167 lbs Moe Dryer pinned John Navin (E<)> in the second period. 185 lbs Mike Dalan pinned Gregg Jacob (E) in the first period. The junior varsity ended its season 1-3- SLEDDING AND TOBAGGONING AREA OPEN The sledding and tobaggoning area at Knox Park is now open to the public. This is the first year that the area is open The sledding hill has a vertical drop of 65 feet and the length of the run is over 650 feet. This area is lighted for night usage and lights will remain on until 10:00 p.m. Parking for this sledding area is located off the Green Street entrance to the park. This facility is open to area residents. \ POOL NOW OPEN The indoor swimming pool at McHenry West campus is now open to the public. The hours for family swim are Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00p.m.,and Thursdays from7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A special reserved session is held on Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for adult lane swimming. Seperate daily admission fees will be charged for children, adults, and senior citizens. This is a cooperative program with the city of McHenry Department of Parks & Recreation and McHenry School District 156. Hot shooting Mike Bauml will lead MCHenry against FVC powers Woodstock on Friday and Crystal Lake Central on Tuesday. Johnsburg Visits Marian There's going to be no love lost when Johnsburg travels to Marian Central Friday night for a key SHARK conference rematch. The Skyhawks (2-2 & 6-13 overall) are tied with Harvard for second place in the conference and are a half game ahead of the Hurricanes (2-3 & 8-7 overall) in the standings. Marengo leads the loop with a 5-0 mark. tin the first meeting bet ween the two schools, Johnsburg won on its home court 56-52 as Jeff Bartmann pumped in 22 points. The occasion also marked Ben Beck's first victory as head coach of the Skyhawks. Johnsburg has a 4-3 record since January but saw its two-game winning streak snapped Tuesday night as visiting Fox Valley con ference power Jacobs rolled to a 72-59 win. The Skyhawks are scoring at an average of 59.0 points per game, while giving up an average of 62.2 points. Bartmann and Tom Pieper, both seniors, have been the scoring leaders for most of the season. Marian won its first game in 1982 on Wednesday night by crushing Northwest Military Academy 102-39. Dave Rickert scored 18 points five other players scored in double figure as Marian broke a five-game losing streak. The Hurricanes are scoring at an average of 63.6 points per game, while surrendering 61.0 points per contest. The home court advantage will weigh heavily in Marian's favor. Hans Rokus' team is 6-1 at home, while Johnsburg is only 2-10 on the road. J O H N S B U R G - Wauconda's girls basketball team won all three of its games to repeat as cham pions in the third annual Johnsburg varsity tour nament held last week at Johnsburg. Grayslake was second in the tournament with a 2-1 record, the host Skyhawks were third at 1-2, and Hebron was last at 0-3. Wauconda's Kris Hubbard led her team to the cham pionship by scoring 73 points to lead all 1982 scorers. Her total also placed her second on the all-time list, falling only six points shy of Kris Bottomley's (Hebron) record total of 79 three years ago. Hubbard also broke two free throw shooting records in the tournament: Most made in a tournament -19#of 23; and Most free throws made in a game - nine.
