The free maple trees are part of the Foundation's effort to promote tree planting during 1962, the 100th Anniversary of the first observance of Arbor Day in schools. The National Arbor Day Foundation, a non-profit organization, is working to improve the quality of life throughout the country by encouraging tree planting. The foundation will give two free Red Maple trees to new members contributing $5 or more during February. The trees will be three to five feet tall and will be sent postage paid with enclosed planting instructions at an appropriate time for plan ting this spring. They are guaranteed to grow, or they will be replaced free by the Foundation. Foundation members also receive a "Say Trees and Smile" bumper sticker and a subscription to the Foun dation's newsletter. BOY SCOUT NEWS PINEWOOD DERBY Cub Scout Pack 351 opened its January meeting with the Webelos den presenting the American and Scout flags. January brings the much awaited Pinewood derby. Racing competition was very fast, with the third place medals being won by Duane Nowicki, Steve Aleckson and Troy Foss. Second place medals were won by Chris Novack, Sean Leonard and John Olson. A handsome trophy was presented to Sean Dillon, Tim Nylander and Steve Wisniewski for the fastest car in their grade. The cars were also judged for best design, with third place bronze medals being won by Bill O'Brien, Philip Wegener and Joe Gilmore. Second place silver medals were won by Rich Anderson, Chris Biggus and Bob Gorman. Winning a first place trophy for design were Anthony Gioia, Ray Quito and Christian Ziebel. After a final round of racing and close judging, fastest car of the pack was awarded to Sean Dillon of Den 2 and Best Designed car was captured by Anthony Gioia of Den 2. Many laughs resounded through St. Pat's parish hall when dads and brothers raced cars they had made. Dan Paprocki received the Bobcat award, Geo. Buch received the Presidential Energy Conservation award. Den 2 captured the monthly Cubby award. Sandwiches provided a break, in the fast paced meeting, thanks to the Webelos den.
