About 90 percent of all pet food and about 50 percent of all toothpaste, aspirin, and hair- spray sold in this country is sold ar grocery stores. In one year, recently, consumers spent more at the grocery store on beer, cigarettes, and pet food combined, than they spent on fresh bief. Doa't Freeze Everything ' Certain foods should not be ' frozen, because their flavor or texture changes during the freez ing process. For example: Cooked egg white toughens; sal ad greens lose their crispness; raw tomatoes change their flavor and color and become limp and watery; raw apples and grapes become soft and mushy; fried foods tend to have a warmed-over taste when re heated. To help save lives and reduce the severity of in juries that result from delayed medical treatment, the National Safety Council has produced a wallet-size card that contains microfilmed medical in formation a rescuer or a paramedic on the accident scene or a doctor or hospital attendant needs to know. A lens on the card allows the microfilm to be read simply by bending the card and looking through the lens with any light source behind the microfilm. For a free fact sheet describing the value to a person of always carrying medical information on his or her person to hasten ef fective treatment in 4he event of an accident, write Public Relations Depart ment, National Safety Council, 444 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, 111., 60611.
