MCHS Students Join Schools For Testing PRESENTS CONCERT Friday evening, Feb. 19, the Community Concerts association of Crystal Lake will present pianist James Dick in the second concert of the 1981-82 season. Dick, a noted young American pianist, is a versatile and exciting artist, with a repertoire that extends through classical and romantic works and includes compositions of today's most prominent composers as well. Admission is by membership card only. McHenry County college will host approximately 140 local high school students competing in tests of engineering, science and math Thursday, Feb. 18. Students from 11 local high schools have been invited to participate in the com petition which is the local level of competition for a nationwide contest spon sored by the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS). The college is providing lunch for the students and MCC instructors will proctor the tests. Each of the students can compete in two test areas. The subjects covered include biology, chemistry, engineering graphics, mathematics, physics and English. DUNKM' ! Results of the testing will be completed that afternoon and the winning schools and high scoring individual students will receive awards. The schools scoring highest in their class will then compete in regional competition at Northern Illinois university March 6. The schools are divided into two classes on the basis of the total enrollment of the school. This is the fourth year that the college has hosted the local competition. Local high schools invited to participate include Crystal Lake South, Crystal Lake Central, Cary Grove high school, McHenry high school, Johnsburg high school, Alden-Hebron high school, Richmond-Burton high school, Marian Central high school, Woodstock high school, Harvard high school and Huntley high school. 4-H Activity Contest Twenty-one 4-Hers are going to show how to do something related to their 4- H projects and activities at the contest to be held Feb. 18 at the Farm Bureau auditorium, Woodstock. The first contestant will begin at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Through the demon stration activity, 4-Hers learn to plan and combine words with their actions. They retain a large portion of the information presented and the experience of talking before a group helps members grow in poise and self-confidence. Competitions were held in the gym with all students participating in archery, ten man pyramid, tug of war, jousting, and wheel barrel races. 4 A point system was used in deciding an overall winner for the day. Points were given for participation, races and displays. Everyone was encouraged to dress for the occasion for which points were also given. Seventy students studied International Relations and recent world events before representing 'their countries' in debates on resolutions written by the students. The American Studies students are the college- bound, high level |uniors who are team-taught English and American History.
