Supt. Weber would assume the duties of assistant superintendent of Public Works, Stanek said. The position was created at the restructuring hearings held last year.; ^ The announcement came in response to questions from Aid. Raymond Smith (3rd ward) at a regular meeting of the council held last Wednesday night. Smith did not question Andrews' qualifications for the job, but expressed what appeared to be a general v.- MADGE GNADT Madge A. Mrs. Gnadt lived in Wonder Lake about 10 years, having come from Barrington, 111. "I have no way of knowing if he's qualified," Smith said. "I don't know if Dick has been asked to step down. I don't know why he is being replaced. I would think you'd (Stanek) give us all the reasons why Dick can't handle the job." Supt. Weber said he was originally hired as a superintendent to work with the crews and was pressured by the administrative responsibilities of the job. Mayor Stanek commented that one person could not handle the job. Finance committee chairman Jack Pepping clarified the committee's role in the matter. He said that since the mayor in tended to make this ap pointment, the committee was concerned with its impact on the budget. Stanek proposed no decrease in Weber's salary of $24,000. He also suggest a salary of $26,000 for the superin tendent. As building and zoning officer, Andrews makes $19,040. ?..<: * . 1 "We needed the input," Pepping said. The Finance committee, he added, is by no means recommending the action. "It seems funny that we're always short of moqey to pay the men (raises), but we can find the money to hire another," Smith said. In other business, the council approved payment of $48,045 to Buss Ford for the purchase of new squad cars for the Police department. The Purchasing committee, chaired by Aid. Ronald Meurer, was authorized to look into different means for disposing of the old cars. The council okayed a proposed policy addition to the subdivision control or dinance which would prohibit the issuance of a building permit in a sub division until all public improvements have been completed. Aid. Wieser pointed out that the provision would protect both the city and the prospective home buyer. The council voted to retain the firm of Yapelli- Ketchmark for the 1981-82 fiscal year audit. The vote was unanimous. Following a short discussion, the council ap proved three beer permits for picnics or gatherings in the cities parks. Following recent council action, all such requests, for either personal consumption or sale, must be approved by the City Council. MUNICIPAL MEETING Ronald Burris, state comptroller, will be guest speaker when city and village leaders gather for the Feb. 24 meeting of the McHenry County Municipal association. It will be hosted by the Village of Lake in the Hills and will be held at the Community building, 1212 Crystal Lake road, in the village. ^ UNITY CENTER OF THE LIVING CHRIST "IT'S A LOVING PLACE TO BE" 1CHALIT DR..
