Neuchiller, M.D., Woodstock, is shown with Easter Seal Poster Child for M c H e n r y C o u n t y , Kristopher Vaos. at the Easter Seal Therapy center in Woodstock. This year's Easter Seals - those colorful little remin ders of the annual spring fund raising campaign - bear the slogan, "Back a Fighter-Give to Easter Seals." They portray a little cirl in a wheelchair, sym bolic of the thousands of individuals who are fighting to overcome a disability and achieve independence. B.B. Neuchiller, M.D., Woodstock has been named McHenry county spring campaign chairman for the Easter Seal "Society of McHenry County. A Woodstock resident involved in his community since 1938, Dr. Neuchiller helped found the local society in 1949. A recent nation-wide study of public awareness of volunteer health agencies revealed that nine out of 10 people are familiar with the Easter Seal society. Easter Seals is one of the oldest of the major health agencies - 63 years old to be exact. This reflects a .high degree of stability and reliability to anyone needing high quality rehabilitation services. The Easter Seal society pioneered in identifying the needs and rights of disable^ people and has been fighting prejudice and negative attitudes all these years to help them enjoy full par ticipation in community life. The McHenry County society is undergoing ex pansion with a Day school for severe and profoundly retarded children slated to start March 2. Easter Seal spring campaign monies are especially critical to help with this endeavor. I n d i v i d u a l s o r organizations wishing to contribute who do not receive their Easter Seals through the mail in early March are urged to contact Easter Seal at 708 Washington, Woodstock, or phone 815-338-1707. Another honor befell the local high school as several instrumental and vocal soloists and ensemble groups proved their ability to compete successfully against other schools of the same or larger size. Of the 10 entries from McHenry, seven brought home gold medals for placing in the first division for Class C schools, and even those not placed in this division ranked well. In the instrumental solo division Bonnie Page took high honors with her clarinet rendition of "Une Pensee Lontaine". Elaine Lan- dgren, who was entered in the cornet division, won high honors with her rendition of the difficult solo, "Bride of the Waves". Elaine was especially honored in being one of the few who had "none" written under "weak points" on her criticism. Six freshmen and sophomore students at East campus high school, all juveniles, were brought before city police officers last week on charges either of making bomb threats or starting a fire. The series of disturbances started Monday afternoon when three calls were made from outside the school, in cluding one from a business firm and another from the local hospital, threatening that bombs were about to explode in the school. Police responded to a Are alarm call the following day but soon found it was only a prank. Administrators became aware of the two boys responsible and they implicated themselves in the disturbances. County Senior Council Moves by Joanne Springman SHAW MKMA NIWS SMVICI About 150 area senior citizens, building residents and local officials turned out last week for a "Senior Services" open house at the Walden Oaks senior citizens building. Resident Manager Colleen Sinift said Walden Oaks and the McHenry County Senior Citizens Council sponsored the informal reception so building residents and seniors from around the county could get acquainted. "The response was very good, and I think we have a very good turnout," Mrs. Sinift said. "Everybody seems to be making friends. "We are looking forward to working together and to socializing together in the future," she told the people gathered in the building solarium. Mayor Frances Kuhn also addressed the gathering. "I think this is just ab solutely wonderful. It's what we knew had to happen when we first saw the blueprints," she said. "You're wonderful people." Mrs. Kuhn also paid tribute to council President Victor Lundemo, who, she said, "volunteered so much time and worked so hard to get this going." Lundemo, in turn, congratulated the mayor and the city "as being a leader for the larger municipalities in the county by participating in the establishment of the cen ter." The walk-in center on Newell street closed and the Walden Oaks facility opened officially last Monday. So They Say American women are the best-yessed women in the world. -Punch. The new 16 month Individual Retirement Account (IRA) is an example of this deregulation. What this means to you is that interest rates paid on this account will vary from institution to institution. We suggest you use our IRA plans (shown in the chart below) as a guide, and call your bank or savings & loan and compare.
