In Chicago, ca|l 6)9-6020. minora Medicare fait 0 Two areas in which vital legislation is pending are: 1. - opposition to the lagboid trap and 3 - alternatives to live animal ex perimentation. This column will deal with the trap; next time it will be on animal research. It is a fact that 78 percent of the American public now favor banning of the steel- jaw leghold trap. A current federal bill (H.R. 374) would force states to ban too trap by preventing the shipment in interstate and foreign commerce of fur from states and nations which have failed to make this trap illegal. Supportive letters can be sent to your r e p r e s e n t a t i v e i n Washington and to Henry Waxman, chairman of the House Subcommittee on Health and the En vironment, House Office Building, Washington, D.C., 20615. Elections are imminent on the state level, so {dense also re-contact your state senators and represen tatives by letter and-or the anti-trap postcards which are available at the H.P. office. We understand that there will be spring d e m o n s t r a t i o n s i n Springfield in favor of an anti-trap law, and that the results can be expected to be positive if we can muster the same public support as last year.
