"He led us in scoring, did his share of rebounding, and even brought the ball up the court for us." Sabatka also aided the scoring attack, but be was most recognised for his other duties. The senior guard led the Hurricanes in both assists and steals, and was Marian's defensive stopper. "Mike is one of the quickest, best playmakers that Marian's had in a long time," said Rokus. "He did it all for us including taking on the toughest defensive assignment" \ Rickert started the season on the botch, but as the season wore he became a starting forward and was also an invaluable addition. "He came on real strong for us late in the season," commented Rokus. "He always gave away two to three inches, but he always held his own under the boards." It was Rickert's clutch free throw shooting (12-for- 12) that enabled Marian to defeat conference champion Marengo on the last regular season game. Marengo's Dennis Hansen was voted the league's last MVP as he carried the Indians to the title with a 6-2 record. Marengo coach Bill Barry was nominated Coach of the Year.
