Th' long, hard winter seems t' be wanin', an' th' hint o' milder weather gi's us an impatience t' see th' greenin' again, but a new snow-fall covered th' soiled landscape, half covered wi' left-o'er patches o' th' winter blanket. It won't be long afore th' lawnmowers '11 be heard, an' spades a dippin' into Mother Earth, in preparation f'r th' plantin, in anticipation o' th' reapin' o' God's bounties. We, elders, who love t' expend' energies among green things a growin', may feel frustrated, but wi' th' grit that took us through these many years, we may try, once more, as each year comes along, t' git our hands into th' good earth, plant a seed, 'r seedlin', an' nurture it along, 'til harvest time. Nowhere, may a body find th' flavor t' satisfy th' taste, o' a tomato, cucumber, pepper 'r other, e'en th' lowly carrot, but fresh out o' th' bosom o' Mother Earth. As th' years mount up, an' rheumatics along wi' th' rest o' th' failin's, characteristic wi' havin' lived a lot more'n th' three-score-'n-ten, it's a bit more difficult t' keep up th' impressions one wishes. One works at a "Growin' old gracefully," a hopin' th' time won't come when one can't keep up wi' th' pace it takes t' manage one's home, so, we, who're blessed wi' th' determination necessary, pull up th' boot'straps 'n carry on, wi' a prayer in th' heart. Springtime, time o' new life! Time t' git a grip on life, an' gi' a hand t' th' necessary prunin', an' beautifyin' o' th' landscape. Only a short time 'till Easter, now, an' wi' that blessed time, an' th' promise o' new life, we enjoy a new effort. Me heart goes out t' those, all o'er th' world, surrounded wi' strife, an' fearful conditions, an' ask God's help in guidin' nations to a state o' peace an brotherly love. No one wins in war. Seems too bad that th' lesson hain't been learned, in all these cen turies. Wi' th' comin' Springtime, may th' hearts o' mankind be turned to a new way o' life.
