The first tour will include the Chicago Auditorium building; Carson, Pirie, Scott building, the Rookery building; and the Manad- nock building. Anne Sowers No Fireworks On The 4th ? After receiving news that the American Legion would no longer be sponsoring the Fourth of July fireworks, the Lion's club made the decision that something would have to be done to preserve this Wonder Lake tradition. They are in the process of bringing all the organizations and interested citizens of Wonder Lake together to see what can be done. With cooperation, the process of collecting door to door could be done with a minimum of work for any one individual or group. We all enjoy watching the fireworks either by boat or from a comfortable lawn chair positioned at one of the beaches. It would certainly be a shame if we lost this opportunity. Meetings are under way now to enlist as much help as possible. I will be attending the next meeting, so I'll have more details of who to contact if you are willing to donate time or money. The testing, which in cludes blood tests for the father and child and a glucose tolerance test for the child, is designed to deter mine if the genetic tendency to develop diabetes has been inherited from the father. As part of a five-year National Institutes of Health grant to the Medical school for a Diabetes and Pregnancy center, 211 babies born to mothers who have diabetes have been evaluated in the last three and a half years. Testing is now available to children of diabetic fathers also. Although onset of diabetes cannot be prevented, if a tendency to develop the disease is determined, certain dietary advice can be offered and appropriate follow-up testing arranged.
