The dancers are the International Folk Dancers from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Costumed dancers will perform folk dances from around the world at McHenry County college Monday, April 5. The free performance by the International Folk Dancers from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will begin at 8 p.m. in the college's multi-purpose room. The public is invited to view the dance# which will feature authentic costumes including a new set of Rumanian costumes. Dances from 12 different countries such as Israel, Poland, Ireland, Russia and the Phillipines will be in­ cluded in the show. MCC's Student Life committee is funding the performance from student activity funds. The dance group is in its fifthteenth year of per­ formances and has enriched its repertoire with dances students have learned while studying in Europe: The IFD is directed by Jeannine Holzmann, a student majoring in dance and music who has attended folk dance camps in California and Minnesota. She is in her fourth year as IFD director. Made up of students and community people who come together to experience the fun, joy and spirit of ethnic dance, the IFD also in­ creases its repertoire by bringing guest instructors to the university campus. Gibson In Marine Corps < James J. Gibson son of Mr. and Mrs. James Gibson of 1615 Highview, McHenry, recently enlisted in the United States Marine corps, for a period of four years. James will undergo recruit training at San Diego, Calif, during Sep­ tember. While at recruit training, he will be taught military customs and courtesies, first aid, con­ fidence, and military history. Additionally, he will partake in a strenuous physical fitness program. After graduation, Gibson will be trained in the Technical Support field. This training, will come from formal schools and on the job training. J.J, Justen Is Promoted Jeffrey J. Justen, son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Justen of 2619 W. Lincoln road, McHenry, has been selected for promotion to grade E-2 airman. Crew Chief Jeff Justen now serves with the 3380-0MS (Tac) branch at Keesler AFB, Ms. Justen is a 1961 graduate of McHenry East campus high school. UJLC& OoCJ CTa/ei FIFTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 7, 1932). Three men confessed to robbing the Ringwood State bank of $2,000. The men also confessed to stealing and extorting thousands of dollars in two years from banks in Illinois and Wisconsin. Walter F. Buck, cashier of the Ringwood bank at the time of the robbery is not cleared of the indictments returned against him by the grand jury at Woutfctock. At the stated City Council meeting the treasurer's report showed a balance on hand of $4,302.15. The amount of the collector's report was $439.59 and the clerk had collected $134.25. The Lady Foresters of St. Clara's court are making preparations to sponsor a home talent play entitled "Cyclone Sally" for the benefit of St. Mary's parish. x ') JOHN L. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 9, 1942). The City Council went on record at the April meeting, favoring the appointment of Paul Yanda as leader of the McHenry City band for the coming fiscal year. The band commission, composed of council members, was so instructed. While the council hesitated in the past to disturb the band under the successful leadership of Prof. Sears, it was concluded that the local instructor was the logical man for the position. Earl Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Smith of McHenry, who is a sophomore at St. Mary's college at Winona, Minn., has been placed on the honor roll for the third quarter of the present year. Earl graduated from the local high school in 1940. TWENTY-FIVE YEARSAGO (Taken from the files of April 11, 1957). On April 15, the woman's auxiliary to the McHenry hospital will open a new gift shop at 105 S. Green street. It will be known as the Pink Lady shop and will have for sale various hand made specialites, homemade delicacies and an interesting assortment of "white elephants" as well as a nearly-new" department stocked with good, clean, wearable clothing. The local driving public is very pleased to find that the old bridge across the Fox river is being resurfaced and repaired. It may be remembered that several months ago, city officials and the Chamber of Com­ merce joined in a request to the board of supervisors for action to be taken in to the bridge, which has I in sad state of repair.. Favorable action was taken recently and county funds will pay for the work now being undertaken. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 19, 1972). A vote listed unofficially as 174 in favor and 109 against, assured the com­ munity of McHenry Shores that it will become in­ corporated.
