Pinks taff, a junior right hander, hurled nothing but zeros at the Gators until die sixth inning when Feeley led off with a single and later scored on a ground out. Williams scored the final run for Crystal Lake South after reaching on a fielders choice and scoring on an error, but Pinkstaff was well in command by that time. Besides the lone single, she allowed only three Gator walks in her seven innings of work and was supported by some tremendous defense by her teammates. In the fifth inning, South's leadoff hitter reached on a walk, but centerfielder Joan Stelmack kept the no-hitter alive by turning in a heads iJp play. On an apparent base hit in the outfield, the Warrior senior turned the play into a force out as her throw to second baseman Tammy Sproull was just ahead of the lead runner. With South threatening to score more in the sixth, shortstop Karen Kar- pavicius choked off the Gator rally with two assists to first baseman Donna Chesler on hard hit ground balls. Pam Reinholm, a reserve third baseman then ended the Gator sixth as she erased the next batter on a ground ball herself. In the seventh inning, Karpavicius again turned in iust missed a trip to State as he was fourth at Sectionals. Honorable Mention: Dan Clark of McHenry posted a 21-12 record in 1981-82 and had a third place finish in the Dictrict to qualify for Sectionals. Clark, who was the only Warrior to hit the 20- win plateau, also led the team in falls with 12. He was later named coach Marty Sobczak's Most Valuable Wrestler. 167 pounds , First TeamWoodstock's Tony Halda won over 20 matches this season, captured the District championship, and jussed missed a trip to State as he placed fourth at Sectionals. Honorable Mention: Rob Stark of Jacobs won over 15 matches in 1981-82 and took second in the District to qualify for Sectional competition. 185 pounds first Team: DaveHelmer of Cary-Grove won nearly 25 matches and finished second at Districts to qualify for Sectionals. Honorable Mention: Bob Halter of Crystal Lake Central won over 11 matches and was third in the District. Heavyweight First Team: BuL'Kastning of Crystal Lake South won over 15 bouts this season and took second in the District to qualify for Sectionals. SHAW MEDIA NIWS SERVICE the defensive plays that kept South from scoring. After the first batter had walked, she speared line drives from the next two hitters that were headed for the outfield and turned them into two quick outs. Gina Jernberg, who replaced Andee Norton in leftfield, then ended the game in dramatic fashion herself as she made a run ning'catch on Meg Scher- man's sinking line drive for the game's final out. The Warriors got on the board quickly by scoring twice in the bottom of the first. With one out, Robin Geiger reached on an error, moved to second on a wild pitch, then stole third and home for the game's first run. Karpavicius added the second run of the inning by reaching on a fielders choice, advancing on Nor ton's single, and scoring on Jodi Werhane's ground ball to shortstop. McHenry had its op portunity to score a couple more in the second inning as Sproull walked and Pinkstaff followed with a double. But Geiger's fly ball to left field resulted in a double play as Sproull left too soon at third. While Pinkstaff was breezing through the first four innings, McHenry finally put the game away in its half of the fourth frame. Dawn Suchor scored what proved to be the winning run on a passed ball after she reached base with one out. After two outs, Geiger reached on an error, then Chesler, Karpavicius, and Norton all collected singles which plated two more runs. Geiger then scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth as she reached on an error, stole second, moved to third on another error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jernberg. It was this type of aggressive baserunning that propelled the Warriors to victory. McHenry had five stolen bases in the contest, and South committed six errors which led to four of the runs scoring. Norton the Warriors with a 2-for-3 performance, while Pinkstaff's double was the only extra base hit of the game.
