A Performing Art Incentive To Dance America's dancers and dance lovers from coast to coast will celebrate National Dance week April 25-May 1. The many hundreds of American dance companies across the country, and the many thousands of dance schools, will be taking this opportunity to increase audience awareness and support for America's liveliest art - the dahce. Alfred Terlizzi, chairman of the Coalition for National Dance week, points out that "the number of American youth who take dance classes each week, and the fine American artists these schools have produced through the i, warrant the recognition of a special week in their nor. McHenry county's dancers will be celebrating Dance week by enlisting members of the area dance company, Judith Svalander Dance theatre, to perform and teach dance classes at various area schools. Students from primary grades to high school will be given the opportunity to become more familiar with dance as a performing art, while seeing a variety of dance styles demonstrated by this versatile group. Ms. Svalander, the former Judith Conway, was born and raised in McHenry and is a McHenry high school graduate. Also during Dance week, this group of dancers will be highlighted at an open house hosted by the Guild for the Judith Svalander Dance theatre. It will be held at 83 Woodstock street, Crystal Lake. Saturday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors will have an acquaint themselves with the wort of the for this young dance company, ft organization. The open house will feature video tapes of the dance company's past performances, and viewing of dance classes in session. Refreshments will be served.
