The Hawfca won seren of the 17 events, tied for first fat another, and accumulated FS points to edge second place St. Charles, which had tl points Hoffman Estatea shattered the frosh-soph 880 relay record with a time of 1:88.9 to eclipee the 1880 mark of 1:37.4 held by St. Charlee. The Hawks also broke the 440 yard relay record with a :45 A clocking. They were one of four taama that held the old standard of :45.7 which they ac complished last year. St. Charles finished with two firsts and tied for a third, and had five second place performancea to place runner-up. The Sainta would've captured the 14-teem field, however, had they not been diaqualified in two relays for having a man run out of the exchange zone. Thoee two relay victories would've earned St. Charles 20 additional pointa and the title. The Saints also broke a meet record as their combined total of 18-4 in the high jump broke the 1978 mark held by Hoffman Estatea by one inch. Belvidere owned the fourth new record as the Buca won the two mile relay in 8:17.8 to breek the old record by six seconds. The Bucs were paced by Jim Elliot, one of the state's beat in the 880. Belvidere finished fourth with 53Vfc points. Schaumburg finiahed third with 67 pointa, followed by Belvidere, while Crystal Lake Central waa fifth with 46, and McHenry was sixth with 39. The Warriors were led/ by Aric Akins who captured the 188 yard daah in a time of HW and the sophomore sprint medley tfam which won in 3:52.1. Members of that relay included Marty Koleno, Mike MiHnac, Matt Adams, and Brian Wright McHenry took a second place in the 880 varsity relay, finished third in the four-mile relay event, placed fourth in the 440 yard relay, and concluded its scoring with a sixth place, finish in the two-mile relay... Meet directors Joe Schlender and head coach Dan Boland did another excelent job as the meet was run like clock work, finishing 25 minutes ahead of schedule. That doesn't happen too often in a 14-team affair. The McHenry high school boys' tennis team dropped its first match of the season laat Wednesday at Round Lake marking the end of the streak of 5-0 match victorias. Prior to meeting the Panthers, the Warriors had blanked their first five opponents by the 5-0 margin. But despite the one loss, McHenry went on to an easy 4-1 victory, and the next day began a new streak by blanking Crystal Lake Central 5-0 Coach Gary Gray's netters now stand 3-0 in the Fox Valley conference and 10-0 overall. Against Round Lake, the match streak was snapped early as McHenry's number one singles player Scott Rhode loat in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 to Scott Hayes. But the remaining matches were all won handily by the Warriors in straight sets. In number two singles, Chris Stumbris defeated Dave Gersch 6-3,6- 3, while Brad Salman topped Leroy (Saldivar 6-2, 6-1. In number one doubles, Kevin Burgees teamed up with Randy Glick to defeat the Panthers' Larry Jergensen and Mark Campos 6-1, 6-0. Ed Donahue and Todd Rhode com pleted the competition with 6-1, 6-0 scores over Steve Schindler and Jack Wallin. Hosting the Tigers on Thursday, Scott Rhode reebounded to win in number one singles 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 over Jim Byrnes. Glick moved up to second singles and defeated Mike Kelly 6-2,6-0, while Stumbris won over Dave Paul 6-2, 6-4 in the number three spot. In the doubles competition, Burgess teamed up with Salman in number one and downed Greg Isenberger and Glen Tacke 5-7, 6-0, 6-2. Donahue and Todd Rhode again combined in number two doubles to finish off McHenry's tenth strsight win. They defeated Jim Jeffers and Todd Stegall 6-2, 6-0. The Warriors will match . their undefeated record against Cary- Grove on Tueeday, then travel to Jacobs on Thursday, May 6 for another FVC battle. McHenry players that are also undefeated at this point include Stumbris, Glick, Burgess, Salman, and Donahue. Brian Wilaon's club was only put through five innings when the game was halted. The Warriors opened their week at McCracken field by losing a 15-12 nine inning game to Crown Wednesday night, then winning a 7-6 eight inning contest over Lake Zurich Thursday. But on Friday, the Warriors were steamrolled by unbeaten Fox Valley conference . leader Dundee, losing in Carpentersville 14-3 by the 10-run rule. Now 2-5 in the FVC and 5-6 overall, , McHenry will hope to bounce back when it travela to Jacobe on Wed nesday, May 5 for a 4:30 p.m. game. Thursday, it was the Warriors' turn to come from behind as they scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings before winning it in the eighth on a Tim Evans single. Evans' hit was preceeded by a two- out walk to Dave Smith and another base on balls to Fritz Larsen. Evans then delivered his game-winner which gave Bauml his first victory of the year. The junior right-hander hurled all eight innings allowing nine hita and only two walks, while striking out four. > Lake Zurich scored in the top of the first, but McHenry knotted the score in its first at bata on three succeesive singles by Bauml, Sivetaen, and Huff. The Bears plsted two runs In each of the third and fifth innings, and scored their final run in the seventh, but the Warriors slowly crept beck scoring five times in the laat three framee to send the game into extra innings. McHenry banged out 11 hita in the contest with Huff going 3-for-5 to lead all batters. Bauml, Sivertaen, and Eyans had two hits each. The FVC front-running Dundee Cardunals spoiled McHenry's chances for a winning week as they jumped all over McHenry in the first inning sending 12 men to the plate and scoring eight times off starter Evana (0-2). The Cardunals added two runa in the bottom of the bottom of the second, one in the third, then invoked the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fifth as Pat Carroll belted a two-run homer with one out off Dan Long. Teams will be formed from area towns with games slated for Saturdays at Veterans Acres in Crystal Lake, beginning June 5 and continueing until mid-August. Each participant must play three continuous innings and bat at least once. Sportsmanship, team play, and above all fun on the part of all par- ticipanta will be stressed over win ning. y' Boys and girls will be in seperate leagues and will be formed by age groups: >12, 13-15, snd 16-18. Participant entry feee will cover T- shirts, hats, trophies, and umpirea. Other equipment will be furnished by the individual teams.
