However, an injured Pat Burke phis Don Praxak working the night shift will prevent West End-Kiss It from overtaking the Fox Hole. The Whale's Tail should fill the void caueed by a breaking up of the Old, Bridge balklub. Last season, the Tail defeated two playoff teams. This season they should be among the post season participants. Peer Inn-Jack's Snsck Shop may not make the playoffs, but will raise more than a few eyebrows with a hustling, aggressive ballclub. If the chips fall into place, Peer Inn-Snack Shop could give the Tail a run for the third playoff position. King's Row has loot too much in the departed Chuck Marke who has joined the Rusty Nail. The Row will not recover to finisher any higher than The Johnsburg Businessmen will hsve the experience, power, hitting, and an adequate defense to take them to the Western division crown. The sddition of the Bents's should give Johnsburg sn nl||i the expected second place club. The Rusty Nail Inn has also acquired a number of solid defensive players and will field a stronger all- around team than it has in any previousseason. Overall team speed, quickness, and defense will give them a distinct edge over most teams. The question is: Will their old time sluggers come through in the big games? Doherty's was the surprise western, division pennsnt winner in 1981. Although still a good team, I don't feel their clutch hitting and fielding will save them as it did last season in the McHenry Girls Drop Two eternal problems must be reaoived, which I don't feel they win, before Doherty's can be ccnskkred a threat for the pennant Huemann's Water Softening wen only five games last season, however, they may be in for a shock in itt Too many key koeos and the failure to sign any power hitting ballplayers will make it difficult to achieve even last ssason's record of 8-11. The woes continued for the McHenry high school girls' Softball team last week as it dropped a pair of Fox Valley conference games, 7-5 to Crown and 8-5 at Dundee. The losses extended the Warriors' losing street. to six straight and left them with records of 1-8 in the FVC and 1-8 overall. Crown led off the first inning by scoring three times off starter Cissy Pinkstaff, but McHenry came back ^with two rims of its own in the bottom half of the tatag as Pinkstaff and Robin Geiger crossed the plate on a fly ball by Doaw Chester and a single by Chris Keevil. The Vikings added another run in the top of the fourth, but Warrior Karen Karpavicius got that run back by leading off the bottom of the fifth with her first home run of the season to make the score 4-3. 5, j the eventual winning the seventh inning as and a double plated three runs. But McHenry came back in its last at bats. Karpavicius led off the seventh inning with a single. Joan Stelmack walked with one out, Jodi Werhane singled to load the bases, then Andee Norton delivered a two- 3di run single. But the Warriors saw their rally end there as the next two batters flew out to end the game. McHenry collected 11 hits in the contest with Geiger leading the way with three safeties and Karpavicius and Keevil each following with two hits. McHenry played its best game of the season agsinst Dundee, sccording to McHenry coach Mary Osterman, although it had lost it in the bottom of the seventh inning . , Trailing 5-3 after six and one half, the Cardunals came alive in their last at bats. Two singles, a walk, and a two-run single knotted the score, then two betters later a sacrifice fly to center field scored the winning rim. "It was a hard game to loee," said Osterman who saw her team turn several defensive gems in the field ^ Stelmack turned to two «ceptional ^^ ^ diving catches in the outfield, end ^ needed w Geiger also shined behind the {date as she threw out two runners st second bsse attempting to steal: Offensively, Ksrpavicius had another great game with three straight hits, while Pinkstaff who suffered the defeat followed with a pair of singlee. The Indians scored three more runs in the third and added another in the fifth to make the score 8-0. Jim Huemann.
