League President Pat Wirtz acknowledged the City of McHenry represented by Mayor Joseph Stanek, Alderman Ron Meurer and Park Director Pete Merkel. Others involved over the past 13 seasons were acknowledged for their support Team sponsors were next introduced and finally Earl Walsh from the McHenry Plaindealer reminded fans of Cristy Mathewson with two strikes to Joe Stanek getting the season officially underway. The six eastern division teams played their rivals from the western division in six three-inning exhibition contests. In game one both new entries - Peer Inn-Jack's Snack Shop and Lee k Mary's Lakeside Inn battled to a 4-4 deadlock Game two saw Jewel Park of Barrington score in all three innings as they topped Little John's 8-4. Mike Yaworski ahd the big hit for the losers witha triple off the fence in left field. King's Row exploded to a quick nine-run lead over Huemann's Water Softening Mike Rankin had a triple for the winners, one of a dozen hits, as the Row held off Huemann's 9-6. Doherty's pounded out 20 hits and scored 18 runs as they outclassed the Whale's Tail 18-1. Irish DeCicco hit the first home run at Knox Park. John DeCiccio and Chris Cook added one more roundtripper each while John and Tom Roach both tripled to the fence. Butch Vengelen triped for the Whale s Tail. West End Pub-Kiss It also flexed their muscles in game five. The Pub routed the Rusty Nail Inn 11-1 with the winners hitting safely a dozen times. Wayne Roewer claimed thd distinc­ tion of hitting two home runs out of the park - one a "mile high". Bobby Truax tripled for the winners while Ray Thelen did likewise for the Rusty Nail. In the concluding game, the Fox Hole Tap won a close 4-2 decision over the Johnsburg Businessmen. Warrior Girls Finish Sixth in FVC CARY - They didn't finish as high in the team standings as coach Don Seaton would have liked, but nonetheleaa the McHenry high achool girls' track team did come up with some record breaking performances at the Fox Valley conference meet at Cary-Grove Friday. The Warriors finished a distant sixth in the meet with 40 team points. Cary-Grove surprised the eight-team field by capturing its first-ever con­ ference title with M points. Ijhe Trojiuis won six of the 16 events and placed second in another to ac­ complish their fest. Crown won three events and took second in two others to amass 82 points and finish runner-up with 82 points. Woodstock, the defending champion and the perennial champion since the conference was formed, finished third with 78Vi points. The Streaks had only one first place, but did have six second place per­ formances to boost their scoring. 1 Jacobs finished fourth with 88 points followed by Crystal Lake South, fifth with 55; McHenry; Crystal Lake Central, seventh with 30>4; and Dundee, eighth with 30. While McHenry won only one event that afternoon, three new school records were set and several other personal bests were also turned in by Seaton's team. "We're still very satisfied," he said. "All but one or two girls had their best times of the year." Delia Saunders, ^ McHenry's sophomore captain, rebounded from a second place finish in the 800 meters to capture the one mile event in a school record time of 5:31 J. Saunders was beaten out in the 800 by Cary- Grove's Katby Kennedy who posted a winning 2:23.9 mark. Satsiders trailed at 3:31.8. Donna Deveneda followed Saw­ ders in the 800 meter event by ranking third with a time of 3:31.7. Vicki Senn alao had a third finish for the Warriors ss she third in the long jump with a leap of 1S-0. This was another McHenry H.S. record. McHenry's third record came in the two mile run as freshman Pam Bradley was clocked at 13:23.7 in that event. She was fourth in the com­ petition. > .. ~ . Also placing fourth for McHenry was the 1800 relay team with a time of 4:22.2.«Members of that relay included Tracey Brechel, Terri Blume, DeVenecia, and Saunders. The Wsrriors earned their final points of the meet in the 800 medley where they placed fifth in a time of 2:01.1. "Our relay teams also did well," added Seaton. Earlier last week, McHenry scored 51 points and finished a close third in a triangular meet won by hoot Crown with 50 points, followed by Dundee with 54. Winning performances by the included Bit place finishes for the Warriors in­ cluded Saunders in the 000 and the ooe mile, Bradley in the two mile, Senn io the long jump, and the 888 and the one mile relays. Thursday night.. Trailing 0-6 to 3-D Bowl going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Hiller knotted the score to send the game into extra innings, then won it 10-9 in the bottom of the eighth as John Meyers' one out infield single scored Mark Schultz. 3-D Bowl took an early 5-0 lead over Hiller as Bill Havemeyer singled and scored to lead off the first inning and four more runs crossed the plate in the second highlighted by Jim Berth's two-run triple. But Hiller rallied for two runs in the bottom of the second and three in the third to knot the score at 5-5. Wayne Hiller's two-run home run and Don Bentz's solo shot imediately following accounted for the tying runs. Hiller then took its first lead in the fourth frame as Phil Oeffling scored on s fly ball by Chuck Marke. 3-D came back to tally three times in the fifth as Jim Jacek knocked ih the tying run and later scored the go- ahead run on a double by Tim Gertz. 3- D added its final run in the sixth in­ ning as Barth collected his third RBI of the game with a fly ball. Hiller wasted no time scoring in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Marke led off with a double and scored as John Meyers also doubled. Jeff Meyers and Wayne Hiller each followed with singles to tie thf game with no outs. John Meyers led pie winners with a 3-for-5 performance, while Hiller and winning pitcher Jim Meyers followed with two hits each. Bob Michaels led St. Regis with five straight hits and five runs scored, while Peterson went 4-for-5 with five RBI's Oeffling, Rosing, and Knox added three hits each. Yaworski led Peer Inn with four hits and four runs scored, while Mike Maher and Irish DeCiccio each had three safeties. She issued three walks and registered eight strikeouts in her six innings of work. The Hurricanes, meanwhile, banged out nine hits in the contest and scored a pair of runs in every inning but the second to invoke the 10-run rale. Nancy Walsh and Sara Traver led the offense with two hits each, while Jackie Weber, Debbie Liggett, Kim Cooper, Andrea Wett, and Donna Remke had one hit each.
