Norman Surratt, Secretary-treasurer of the Illinois district, Assemblies of God will be the featured speaker Sunday, May 23, for Maranatha Assembly of God's first anniversary, celebration. According to Pastor Larry Thompeon, a full day of good preaching, excellent musk andpotlusk dinner is planned. The Rev. Surratt is a graduate of Southwestern Assemblies of God college and served the Illinois district as pastor, presbyter and evangelist before being elected to his preaent position. He will be speaking at the 10:80 a.m. worship service. An afternoon service is also planned at 2:30 p.m. following a potluck din­ ner. The Rev. Darwin Heuser, pastor of Calvary Temple in Waukegiui, will be the afternoon speaker. Special music will be provided for both ser­ vices by the church's new choir and several guest srtists. An invitation is extended to all by the congregation to join in this joyous celebration. Sunday school will begin at 9:30a.m. and worship services will be at 10:30 a.m. and 2**30 p.m. The regular 6 p.m. service is cancelled on this day. McHenry bursts onto the summer scene of family fun and outdoor activities, from July 23 through Aug. 1. The City of McHenry Department of Parks and Recreation, under the direction of Pete Merkel, has produced a summer of out­ standing activities, many of which culminate in tournaipents during F i e s t a D a y s , u i u ' » The 10-day gila serie^ begins with a tennis tournament Friday, July" 23, held at Knox park. Competition is set up in age categories for both singles and doubles A mixed doubles com­ petition will also be scheduled. Entry blanks will.be availsble st city hall and the Chamber of Commerce office after June 14. Fees snd entry forms for this snd all other athletic events requiring them musH^T turned in to city hall. The tennis preliminaries will be played the week of July 19, with the finals being part of the opening highlights of Fiesta Days July 23 and 24. Tuesday, July 27, the popular Seven-Mile River Run returns to teat the stamina, grit, and determination of a wide cross-section of area run­ ners. Participants will again compete in separate age groups, and the entry fee includes the cost of a t-shirt snd awards for each competing age group. Awards will be given in male and female divisions\and the age groupa are: 11 and under^t2»^JJ445i_Jt!7; 18-24; 25-29 ; 30-39 ; 4Q49iM and ovefr. Runners report to Pearl Street park by 6:30 p.m., with the race to begin at 6:45 p.m. Runners aged? 15 or under must have a parent's signature on the entry blank, and runners 13 and under will finish at the halfway point at the Johnsburg Rescue squad building. Runners 14 and over will finish at Pearl street park. Deadline for registration is Saturday, July 24, at noon, city hall. Wednesday, July 28, the Football Jamboree will provide some ex­ citement at McCracken field for both participants and observers, as a fast- paced game demonstrating many football techniques will be enjoyed .For further information on participating, call the park district st 344-3300\ Thursday, July 29, two events will be available for sports lovers. Concession stands will quench the thirst and help restore some energy. Also that evening, the championship Track Meet for six different' age groups from 7 years to 18 yean old will take place at McCracken field. Events will include the 50-yard daah, 100-yard dash, 220-yard daah, 880-yard run, the mile run, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus, and Softball throw. Ribbons will be awarded. The only required equipment is a pair of tennis shoes. The Fiesta Days championship Track meet is the last meet in a series of seven track meets sponsored by the park district, and runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 30 . All ages of the fSmily can enjoy the Moraine Hills Bike Hike which begins at Pearl street park at 8:30 a.m. and returns there at 1:30 p.m. The bike hike will take riders through the beautiful Moraine Hills State park, and children too small to ride the distance to Moraine Hills will have their bikes transported there on a truck. There is a small registration fee that morning at 8 a.m. in Pearl street park. Rortvet, formerly of 812 N. Southgate, McHenry, died Monday, May 17, at the home of her daughter on Country Club drive. She was 78 years old, born in Albert Lea, Minn., June 15,1808, to Gilbert and Emma (Jacobaon) Johnsrud Mrs. Rortvet lived in McHenry since 1957, having come from At- water, Minn.; had been a teacher at Landmark and Edgebrook schools for 12 years; and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary Poet McHenry 491. VFW Auxiliary and the McHenry Hoapital Auxiliary She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, in 1947 and a daughter, Muriel Niceley. in 1981. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Clarice) Harms of McHenry; six grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Selleseth of Morris, Minn.; and two .brothers, Roy Johnsrud of Starbuck. Bauer. 72. 2009 Woodland Park, McHenry, died Thursday, May 13, in Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical center, Chicago Hejvasborn in Chicago, Aug. 10, 1908, to Joeeph and Katherina (Ditz) Bauer. A summer resident of the area for the past 80 years, Mr, Bauer had reeided permanently the last 10 yea*. He worked 42 years as a supervisor with Chicago Public Schools Recreational Dept.; was paat preaident and executive committee member of the Central Amateur Athletic Union; adviaor, referee and member of the Junior Olympic committee; Daily News Relay; Pan American Relay and City-wide Recreational Service Relays. He belonged to St. Patrick's Catholic church, McHenry. Survivors ere s brother, George Bauer of Huffmalft, Tex. and a couain, Catherine Herman of Round Lake, 111. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Bauer, a brother. Joeeph Bauer and a sister-in-law, Lillian Bauer. Viaitation waa from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the George R. Justen ft Sob funeral home, where a Wake service was held at 8.
