It was the third amount, topped only by Crystal and Woodstock. Six girla in the local high achool were informed that they had received honors for superior performance in a recent shorthand con teat. Second- year students honored included Jeanette Dresdow, Barbara Marticke and Elsie Morris. First-year winners were Linda Anderson, Doris Berkley and Mary Jane Bell. McHenry friends are mighty proud to learn that Cadet Major Herman E. Lacy, Jr., son of Col. and Mrs. Her­ man E. Lacy of McHenry, was awarded one of four gold wrist wat­ ches at the annual Bradley university AFROTC recognition day ceremonies. John Bolger, son of Mrs. John Bolger, will be*among the 206 students who will receive degrees at the University of Notre Dame's 112th annual commencement exercises on June 2. Bids were received by the City Council who entered , into contract with the low bidder, Humphreys Electric company of Dixon, 111., to install traffic sijpial lights at the corner of Green and Elm streets and Richmond road and Elm street. A long standing problem of trucks parking in business areas to make front door deliveries may be solved by the passage of an ordinance prohibiting parking of trucks after 11 a.m. The Chamber of Commerce and buainess men individually have requested action on the part of the council to correct the hasardous traffic conditions caused by truck parking. It ia expected that more merchandise deliveries will be made at the rear of buildings. The Rev Vincent P. Fish, priest-in- charge of St. Paul'a Episcopal mission in McHenry, has announced the kick- off of the building fund drive for the new Episcopal church soon to be built on South Green street in the addition to Edgebrook Heights, where the mission holds title to five and a half acres of land. The preaent plans call for the erection of first unit "The Chapel that became a Rectory". It is so designed to beeesne a church in the future. Students Visit With Author In obeervation of National Library week, student members of Bush Learning center's Author and Illustrator club were given an op­ portunity to personally meet Ms. Jean Fritz, author of many children's books. The arrangements for the meeting were handled by the school's Learning center teacher-librarian, Kathy Mullen, who also serves as club sponsor. The club members were invited to a reception given by a Crystal Lake Wwftk ffYwnnpftv alona with area achool and public librariana, to meet and visit with Jean Fritz. The three fifth grade students attending with Mrs. Mullen were delighted with Ms. Fritz' presentation and her fresh approach to writing about famous American Revolutionary heroea. After con­ cluding her presentation with an unusual and interesting slide show, members of the audience, including the atudenta, were able to ask many questions about her writing atyle. For the Johnaburg group, the most rewarding part of the day followed the formal program and interview session. Students were introduced individually, and allowed to present Ms. Fritz with a special Bush Lear­ ning center tote bag autographed by all the members of the school club. Ms. Fritz waa moat surprised and quite touched by the students' hospitality and poise. In appreciation, she autographed a library book from the school's collection and poeed with the students for pictures. The students selected from the club to attend the reception included Angie DeWolfe, Kathy Lane, and Stephanie May.
