The bride elect graduated from McHenry Community high school In 1M0 and attended Moody Bible ' Institute and McHenry County college. Her fiance graduated from Moody Bible Institute and attended Huntington college in Indiana. Both will attend Northern Illinois university in the Fall. A June 12, IN2 wedding Is planned to be held at ihe Wonder Lake Bible church. MR. AND MRS. KENNETH BECKER SOLEMN VOWS - May 8, Is the date when marriage promises were solemnised between the former Rita A. Gibeault and Kenneth H. Becker, at St. Mark's Catholic church, during a 2 p.m. ceremony, officiated by the Rev. William Walsh. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Gibeault, 201 l-12lh street, Two Rivers, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Irvln Becker. 5200 Home avenue. McHenry, are the parents of the groom. A reception was held at the Carlton Inn. Two Rivers, for 125 guests. The couple are making their home at 5A Dundee Quarter. PalaUne. III. The bride graduated from Washington high school and is a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines. The groom, a graduate of McHenry Community high school in 1970, received a degree from Southern Illinois university in 1977 and is* employed as a technical service representative for W. R. Grace-Cryovac. Summer plans seemed to be quite important on the agenda when the Marcia Mary Ball Circle met for its May meeting at the First United Methodist church of McHenry. Snug Harbor restaurant was chosen as the place members and their friends will have their "Luncheon Out", an annual event always looked forward to with enthusiasm The date will be Tuesday, June 1, at noon, and reservations should be made with Lyda Radisch The annua promptly. 1 Circle Picnic scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 3, at noon, and will take place at the home of Helen Walters, 3016 W. Mary lane. Th||jWill be a catered picnic aa usual, and reservations are to be made with Mrs. Radisch. Members and guests will participate in a "White Elephant Sale", which » always a lot of tan and replenishes the circle treasury. Everyone is urged to start collecting items for this picnic s&> Lonah WendDandt, hostess, served delicious refreshments and Gertrude Anferson gave very inspiring and interesting meditations. There will be no regular circle meetings until September, as the group wjjU disband until that time. Guestrand newcomers are always welcome at the Marcia Mary Ball Circle gatheringa. Friendship _Club Takes Recess To Fully Enjoy Summer Months There were 41 members and guests in attendance when Pastor Lowery offered Grace at the May Friendship club potluck dinner in the Fellowship hall of the First United Methodist church of McHenry. In the abaence of President Helen Crouch, Vice- President Herbert Rose welcomed everyone and thanked the ladies for the delicious dinner. Guests Gladys and Larry Temple, Noreen Sorenson, Irene and Edwin Hans, igen's brother and sister-in-law were in­ troduced and received a warm welcome. Mary Rose's meditations were very touching, on "Mother's Day", "May", "Think", * "Cross" and "Good Friends; She always brings -lovely devotions which are thought Wittpbck, Evelyn and Harry H Minnie Gosch, and Daisy Wildhag provoking, inspirational, and ap­ preciated by all. Cards were signed for absent members and greetings were ex­ tended from Col. and Mrs. Herman E. Lacy, who are now living in Arizona, to all their McHenry friends. The group was grateful to Pastor Lowery who was instrumental in securing the program presented by Evelyn and Harry Hans. They shared highlights of their trips to Australia and New Zealand, with beautiful pictures and an excellent narration. The club will be in recess until Saturday, Sept. 11, but anyone who is willing to take a program is urged to notify Lyda Radisch, stating what month they would prefer. She will be making up a new roster and schedule and would appreciate volunteers. MR. AND MRS. LEN WARD RE8IDE IN SOUTHWEST AFRICA - Newly married Mr. aad Mrs. Lea Ward are making their home la Windhoek, Southwest Africa following their exchange of wedding vows April 5, la Windhoek. McHenry American Legion Auxiliary MCHS Student Recipe Wins Regina Budwick of Huntley, a student at McHenry West campus, has won a $100 savings bond for herself, and a food processor for her school's home economics departfhent, for her recipe entry in a Creative Cooking contest She was a runner-up in the Accompaniments category with her recipe for Rice Timbales, easily molded individual servings of seasoned rice, topped with a luscious cheese sauce. Recipes were judged on the basis of good taste,. appetizing appearance, originality, ease and convenience of preparation, and appropriate use of the rice product. Forty-one members and two guests were present tp honor the Gold Star members at the annual Gold Star potluck dinner, held Monday Evening, May 17, at the McHenry Legion home. Evelyn Ficek, Gold Star sister, was the only member present and she was given a beautiful corsage by Eleanore Reid, Gold Star chairman. Americanism essay winner, Amy Vayo, and her mother Mrs. John Vayo, were introduced by the Delta Kappa Gamma i Inducts New Chapter Society- Officers Alpha Theta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary society of women educators, held their final meeting of the school year at a dUpr meeting at the Branded SteakHouse on May 10. ' Mrs. Verda Dierzen, the chapter's chairperson of the Native American Project committee, reported the committee's earnings of $175 will be donated toward the American Indian Scholarship fund. Mrs. Roberta Reed, the chapter's representative to the Turning Point Crises center, gave members an update of the center's activities. The chapter voted a monetary pledge towards a shelter facility for the center. Hold Catholic Daughters Lunch The annual Mother's Day Dinner of the Catholic Daughters of 'America was transformed into a delightful luncheon and the McHenry Country club provided a menu to satisfy everyone. The Reverend James Gaynor in­ spired all in attendance with his commentary on the importance of prayer. Members of the group, through their efforts, keep the lifeline open to the Lord, and thus are daughters of prayer. Father Gaynor provides a meaningful religious background as chaplain. To conclude this memorable affair, a group of delightful young men and women from West campus en-' tertained and their efforts were very much appreciated. They are best known as a Swing Choir. A very impressive memorial ser­ vice by Chaplain Doris Henken and President Dorothy Messer was held for departed members, Mary Ann Neuman, Eleanor Althoff, Lenore Cooley, Elizabeth Schoewer and Julia Vareste*. Junior members present at the dinner were Jenifer Grothman, Shannon Lingenfelter, Nancy Messer, Jennifer Rourke, Raina Rourke and Jannie Schultz. They had the honor of participating in the memorial service. Midge Scharf, Poppv chairman, announced this year was a "<?ry good one for contributions for poppies. On behalf of the American Legion and auxiliary and V.F.W. and auxiliary, she acknowledged the community for its fine cooperation and assistance, in our efforts to help disabled veterans. President Messer, Marge Datz, District Memory Book chairman and Ruth Mrachek, District Constitution Bylaws chairman, attended the 11th District Annual Convention Sunday, May 16, at Elmhurst Legion Post home. The McHenry County Council of the American Legion auxiliary elected Dorothy Messer to the office of Sergeant-at-Arms for the coming year., Ceil Violett, Ways and Means chairman, reminded members of the semi-annual chicken dinner which will be held Sunday, May 23, with serving from noon to 4 p.m. She will need a lot of volunteer help with serving and also will need bakery goods for dessert and the bake sale. Please call Pearl Cooper or Ms. Violett if you can help. The Nominating committee, headed by Marie Howe, announced the candidates for office in 1982-83. They are Dorothy Bennett, president; Pearl Cooper, first vice-president; Vicky Bottari, second vice-president, Sandy Schultz, treasurer; Harriet Larson, historian; Betty Lou Smith, chaplain; and Dorothy Messer, sergeant-at- arms. The entire slate was elected. Sally Roth and Harriet Mikosz were the lucky winners of prizes. Music chairman, Maria Guettler, explained and played the song "Battle Hymn of the Republic". Sally Roth, accompanied by her mother, sang a beautiful song, "It's Time For Us To Pray". Marie Howe was chairman for the potluck dinner, with her committee of Dorothy Diedrich, Harriet Mikosz and Edith Rourke. Midge Scharf will be Refreshment chairman for the June meeting. Ruth Mrachek « McHenry Unit Publicity Chairman U.M.W. Mission Team Meets June 7 The U. M. W. Mission Team (Executive committee) will meet Monday, June 7, at 9:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist church of McHenry. This will be the last meeting of the committee until the Fall season, so all members are urged to attend. The May Mission Team meeting was very busy finalizing plans for the "Mad Hatter Tea" which was held Thursday, May 20.
