Official ASA rules will be enforced and each team is required to supply one 12-inch official inseam softball. Twenty players, plus manager and coaches are the personnel limits. Board has accepted an invitation to join the Northwest Suburban Con­ ference, effective in the 1983-84 school year. The board voted last Thursday to join after league representatives extended an invitation on April 27. The conference is presently com­ prised of Grayslake. Wauconda, Fox Lake-Grant, Lake Zurich, Round Lake, Prairie View-Stevenson, An- tioch and Gurnee-Warren. Antioch and Warren, the two largest schools in the league with 1981 82 enrollments of 1,704 and 1,508, respectively, are leaving the conference at the end of the 1982-83 school year. "We're pleased to be in any con­ ference at all," said Marengo athletic director Rod Poppe Wednesday. Poppe said the school's ad­ ministration was not happy with the prospect of competing athleticly as an independent. Marengo is now a member of the SHARK conference, but that league will fold at the end of this school year. Other SHARK schools -- Marian Central, Johnsburg and Hononegah -- have also found new athletic homes for the next school year while Marengo and Harvard will pursue independent programs. Harvard is expected to remain an independent at least for the next two academic years, according to athletic director William Courtright - Marian Central will return to the West Suburban Catholic Conference after its one-year SHARK mem­ bership Johnsburg will have a one year jump on Marengo as it enters the NWS in August while Hononegah is joining the Rockford-area Big Nine Conference. Marengo's acceptence into the NWS ends a long search for a new home. Harth made it to the state level of competition after qualifying at the Joliet East high school sectional and the Ubertyville high school district at earlier dates others Parkland athletes besides Harth that advanced to sectionals included Rachel Prushinski, Becky Beyer. Jackie Ricci, Trudy Milstein, Erin Doherty, Dan Parisi, Bill Ktheridge. Dana Pitel, Tim Friesl, and Becky Mieszala year requested consideration to enter the Fox Valley conference. Johnsburg and Marengo will be the smallest schools in the reconstituted league. Johnsburg has a 1881-82 enrollment of 682 while Marengo is 685. Enrollments in the rest of the NWS range from 892 (Wauconda) to 1,453 (Prairie View-Stevenson). Harvard is resigned to an in­ dependent status for at least the next two years. The school had sought entry into the Big Eight conference, but was turned down. BEC officials are expected to reconsider Harvard's application next year. "The earliest we could get in is 1984," said Courtright. "We have made an application to the Big Eight. We understand they won't act on that until January of next year." The McHenry County school had considered applying to the Northwest Suburban, but Hornet coaches and school officials felt "it wouldn't be the best thing for Harvard," said Cour­ tright, explaining that the NWS schools were larger and such com­ petition would mean more extensive traveling. In the meantime, Courtright has nearly filled an independent slate for the Hornets next season, although he still has a handful of spring spots to fill. The SHARK conference's troubles began during the 1980-81 school year when South Beloit, Beloit Catholic and North Boone announced each would leave to help form the Trailblaaar Conference -- leaving the SHARK with only four schools Marian Central boosted the number to five for 1881-82 but when Hononegah, by far the league's largest school, opted to join the Big Nine the SHARK found itself on the ropes.
