"The French Lieutenant's Woman." The "movie" on "AW" is called "A View from the Bay" and it's based on a thinly veiled autobiographical novel by one of the show's longtime characters, James Frame (Richard Bekins). Corinne Jacker, the show's head writer, says she created this storyline because "I think people just like to see how show business magic works." Another reason might be that the events featured in Frame's book (and germi­ nating movie) mirror the plotlines featured on "AW" between 1966 and 1975. This is roughly the period when "AW" was first in the daytime ratings. The show is now usuaHy the ninth or 10th highest rated show. l ast month, all of the fwyu.«r AW" sets were removed from the show's Brooklyn. N Y. studio The studio was converted to a replica of a movie set, com­ plete with movie interiors and production areas. Tele­ vision cameras shot scenes that included movie camer­ as. The scenes will be interspersed into "AW" for the rest of the summer. • Scores of new actors were hired to portray the cast, production personnel and extras for the "movie " They include Sean O'Con­ nor, who plays Walker, and Ann Gilllespie (ex- "Ryfi's Hope") as Anita. Walkar is based on the Frame char­ acter, while Anita Is based on "AW's" longtime heroine, Alice Matthews Frame. This is not the first time a "movie-within-a-soap" has been tried.
