JOHN KRANZ Accompanied by her parents, Karen Jean Szumlas approached the altar of Si John the Baptist Catholic church Saturday, Aug. 7, to meet her bridegroom, John Richard Kranz. The 3 o'clock afternoon Mass was officiated by the Reverend Joseph Kulak. The bride is the daughter of Joseph Daniel and Dolores Lorraine Szumlas <>f 3314 Cove court, McHenry. The bridegroom's parents are Robert and Marianne Kranz of 5106 Pat ton drive, Wonder Lake. Offering musical selections for the ceremony were the bride's sister, Kathy Lynn Szumlas, who also acted as maid of honor, and his brother, Tom Kranz, who was best man. Both provided their own guitar ac companiment, Kathy singing at the offertory and Tom at the communion. Reader for the nuptial service was Dave Brenner, a friend of the bride from McHenry. Nick Szumlas of Seal tie, Wash., and Lorraine Szumlas of Chicago, godparents of the bride, and Charles (Bud) Adams of McHenry, godfather of the bridegroom, carried the gifts to the altar. The bride chose a beautiful dacron polyester organza gown trimmed in beruffled chantilly lace and multi- ruffled hemline with attached chapel train. Her cascade type bouquet consisted of Fuji mums, daisies, button mums, baby's breath and greenery. Besides her sister as maid of honor, the bride was attended by Nancy Preston of Ringwood, Patty Condon of McHenry, Linda Kranz of Wonder Lake, and Nancy Tonyan of lngleside as bridesmaids. They wore teal-colored, floor length gowns with spaghetti straps and chiffon jackets of the same hue. The dresses were styled with high collars, ruffled, long sleeves and a ruffled peplum A yellow and white color scheme was carried out in the mums, daisies, baby's breath and Fuji mums in their bouquets. Tonya Tonyan of lngleside was flower girl, wearing a white, floor length chiffon gown with high collar, short, puff sleeves, and narrow satin ribbon at the waist. The basket of flowers she carried contained the same kind of flowers as the bride's bouquet In addition to Tom Kranz as best man, the bridegroom was served as groomsmen by John Hayden of Woodstock and Mark, Mike and Rich Szumlas, brothers of the bride of McHenry Ryan Gregorio of McHenry was the ring bearer. The mothers of both the bride and groom selected eggshell dresses in crepe A reception for 200 guests followed the ceremony, held at Andre's Steak House, Richmond, where dinner and dancing were enjoyed The couple left later on a week's trip to Dolphin Beach island off St. Petersburg, Fla. The couple will make their home in McHenry. The bride is a 1979 graduate of Johnsburg high school and has been attending Eastern Illinois university, majoring in Special Education and Art. She is a training assistant at the Pioneer Center for the Exceptional. The bridegroom graduated in 1979 from Marian Central high school. He is an advertising salesman employed by the Plaindealer Ritter Infant Baptized Peter George Ritter, son of Jack and Marie Ritter of Pistakee Highlands, was baptized Sunday, July II, in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, McHenry. The Reverend Roger W. Schneider administered the Christian sacrament and sponsoring godparents were the baby's uncle ana aunt, Marianne and Alan Peterson of Richmond, 111. PLAN REUNION The McHenry Community high school class of 1977 is planning a five- year reunion Saturday, Aug. 28. Preparations have begun for the Fish Boil Dinner sponsored by the McHenry County Association for the Retarded to be held Friday, Aug. 20, at McHenry's Pearl Street Park. Serving hours will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Association members provide a delicious dinner and a bit of showmanship when the giant caldrons "boilover" at the end. Although there are many variations to a traditional Fish Boil of fine codfish, boiled potatoes and onions served floating in hot melted butter, the Pioneer Center group adds coleslaw, homemade bread, pie and a beverage. Tickets are being sold at Pioneer Center facilities and the local Chamber of Commerce office. Arrangements for tickets to be delivered can also be made by calling Pioneer Cento* for the Exceptional, McHenry, or ticket chairperson Wm. E. Pierce, Bayview lane, McHenry. The McHenry event is the last of three Fish Boils planned as fund raisers for Pioneer Center, which serves the developmentally and mentally disabled of McHenry county. Carried Mother's Confirmation Rosary On Her Wedding Day the Ritter home to enioy a delicious luncheon in honor of the occasion. Peter was .born April 17, 1982, in McHenry hospital and he was welcomed home by a three-year-old brother Brian James. The infant has a maternal andmother, Mrs. Alice Peterson of ring Grove; paternal grandmother. Anna Ritter of McHenry; and paternal great-grandmother, Marie Theis of Chicago. Keeping the tradition of 'something borrowed', the former Kathy Herdrich carried her mother's white pearl confirmation rosary as she exchanged promises of marriage Aug. 7, with Dr. C. J. Ludford. Father Petit performed the 1 p.m. ceremony in St. Patrick's church, McHenry, before an altar decorated with an arrangement of lilac silk orchids and Anthuriums. To further enhance the beauty of the setting, the center aisle sides of all the pews were graced with lilac bows, candles, orchids and baby's breath. Special music, including "We've Only Just Begun" and "Sabbath Prayer was presented by Joanne Wilson, who accompanied herself on the organ. The bride is the daughter of John and Lucille Herdrich, 2217 W. Reed avenue, McHenry. Paul and Delores Overton, 1512 N. Riverside drive, McHenry, are the parents of the bridegroom. The bride wore a white organza gown lined with taffeta and embellished with Venice and Chantillv lace The fitted bodice featured a dropped waist, high banded lace neckline, and V-shape yoke of lace, edged with a wide ruffle which covered the shoulders forming cap sleeves. A flounce of six tiers of lace ruffles trimmed the hemline of the full, hooped skirt. Seed pearla and iridescent sequins, lavishly scattered over the entire ensemble, had been hand sewn by the groom's mother and grandmother Her fingertip veil fell from poufed netting securea to a lace picture hat, echoing the pearl and sequin treatment. Her hands were covered with pearl and sequin trimmed lace gauntlets, made by the groom's mother and to complete the 'southern belle' effect, she carried a Parasol adorned with white halaenopsis orchids and baby's breath. Attending her sister as maid of honor was Debbie Herdrich of McHenry. Bridesmaids were a friend of the bride, Maureen Wohnrade of McHenry and the groom's sister, Marguerite Houston of Honolulu, Hawaii. Attendants were attired in orchid print gowns, styled with an off-the- shoulder, fitted bodice and a flounced hemline skirt, drawn to a bustle in the back. They carried lace fans bedecked with a spray of Dendrobium orchids, fern, baby's breath and ribbon streamers. A niece of the bride, Kariasa Herdrich, was the flower girl. She unre a floor length lilac dress of chiffon and taffeta, designed with a high neckline and a cape effect, edged with lace. A lilac ribbon was tied in a how at the waist. •• The groom wore a white western suit, top stitched with orchid; a white shirt with orchid-lilac ruffle trim and matching lilac Maverick tie. Handling the duties of best man was Peter Merkel of McHenry. Groomsmen were Patrick Niesen of Fridley, Minn, and Patrick Gummerson of Woodstock. Their boutonnieres were of hybrid Vanda orchids in lavender, lilac and magenta hues. Trie mother of the bride chose a sea spray, floor length dress, highlighted with a V-neck, blouson bodice, and -scalloped hem, full skirt. Peau d'Ange lace, bugle beads and sequins accented the gown. A street length dress of lilac silk, designed with a balloon skirt and balloon sleeves, and girded with a self material cummerbund was the choice of the groom's mother. Both wore large Cattleya orchids. A garden reception was held for 150 friends and relatives at the home of the groom's parents. Guests were , seated at tables around the pool, where they viewed a large, floating, heart-shaped arrangement of Anthuriums. The wedding cake was a creation of the groom's mother. The groom's grandmother, Mrs. Rose T. Schmitt, was present for the occasion from Pacific Palisades, Calif. All flowers for the day were flown in from Hawaii. The bride, a 1977 graduate of McHenry Community high school, is employed as a dental receptionist. The groom graduated from Marian Central Catholic high school in 1970; the University of Notre Dame in 1974; Loyola School of Dentistry in 1979; and ia currently a dentist. The newlyweds are residing at 1002 Laguna, McHenry, and plan to take a honeymoon in January, to California, Mexico and the beautiful Hawaiian islands. Most of the veterans were of the Vietnam era. Veterans Administration Volunteer Service chairman Barb Karaszkiewicz, was especially pleased that the chapter president Evelyn Ficek, Barb Bryniarski and her husband Chester, all of McHenry, attended, making the visit possible. During the coffee and doughnut break, volunteers distributed han dkerchiefs, combs and tooth brushes as gifts from the chapter. The evening came to a close as the veterans were returning to their wards, bidding farewell and ap preciation to the volunteers.
