Today, only a few remnants of this soil building plant community remain in the county An interpretive program at Hickory Grove Conservation site at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug 22, will traverse a boardwalk trail through wet prairie. Participants can learn to recognize the dominant late summer plants of wet prairie, as well as its relation to other local wetland types. A wedding trip to Breckenridge, Colorado, to enjoy the thrill of white water rafting was planned by newly married Mr. and Mrs. Steve Gonterman. The couple was married Aug. 14, in the First United Methodiat church of McHenry, during a 4 p.m. ceremony officiated by Pastor Thomas Lowery The bride is the former Susan Jo Wentsel, daughter of Jack and Betty Wentsel, 4913 W. Oakwood drive, McHenry. Jack and Dorothy Gonterman, 515 Rebecca, Belvidere, 111. are the parents of the bridegroom. The briae wore a wedding gown fashioned from the renaissance era. It was pure white English net over taffeta: imported Alencon lace appliques sculpt the bodice, enhancing a dropped waistline; delicate Schiffli embroidery traced a sweetheart neckline and was accented by off-the-shoulder puffed satin sleeves; all lavished with'tiny seed pearls and sequins. The skirt was a soft reverie of English net, scattered with Alencon appliques; graced at the hemline with Schiffli lace embroidery points, sweeping into a wide chapel length train. In her hair, a veil ofowhite silk illusion fell softly to her shoulders from a bandeau of layers upon layers of Alencon lace petals and tiny pearls. Attending the bride as maid of honor was Cathy Witt of Palatine, III. Brideemaids were Judy Dehn and Jayne Keller, both of McHenry, and Marci Holden of Dallas, Tex. Attendants were attired in 1 Kma of silk taffeta, in a vibra de of periwinkle. The dressea were a reflection of the bride's own gown, with a fitted bodice and full skirt: accented by a sweetheart neckline and puffed sleeves, with delicate rosettes at the shoulder. Handling the dutiee of beat man waa Gary Gonterman of Fort Collins, Colo. Groomsmen were Kevin Wentzel of Chicago, Marty Keller of McHenry; and Gary Wilt of New Berlin, Wis. Bradley Hansen of Ingleside. IU. and Dennis Gonterman of Belvidere served as ushers. The mother of the bride chose a 3 plum, two-piece tunic style dress wii lace over-jacket. A dusty lavender, long pleated gown, with draped bodice was the choice of the groom s mother. Following the nuptiala, a reception for 150 friends and relatives was held at the McHenry Country club. The couple both graduated from Northern Illinois university; she is employed at Neiman Marcus and he is a salesman for National Chemsearch. River McHenry American Legion Auxiliary The joint installation of the American Legion Poet No. 491 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 491 was held Sunday, Aug. 8, at the McHenry American Legion Post home About 100 people were in a tendance as Robert Chovanec was installed as comander by James Chesler, Sr., past commander of the McHenry poet. Installing chaplain was John Rourke and installing sergeant-at-arms was Edward Mass. Installed with Chovanec were Tom Wade, senior vice-commander , Ray Thoma, junior vice-commander; Lou Schroeder, finance officer; Robert Honeyman, adjutant; Henry Rabn, chaplain; Bernie Matchen, historian; Jim Hermle, sergeant-at-arms; and Dave Hansen, assistant sergeant-at- arms. Installing officers for the McHenry unit were Margaret Dats, past president of the McHenry unit. In stalling chaplain was Edie Rourke and installing sergeant-at-arms was Ceil Violett, a past president of the McHenry unit. Music was provided by Maria Guettler. Organize Local Playgroups Playgroups for pre-schoolers are being organised throughout the McHenry County area. The Childbirth and Parenting association is organizing members who wish to participate in playgroups, first by the Se of the child ana then by locality, tch playgroup will have from three to six children and will meet in each other's homes on a weekly or semi monthly basis. The moms will take turns organising activities for the chikbren. Linda Puzzo is currently putting " r lists of playgroups for many and an New members are always encouraged.
