•second. Plan For Baptismal Rite PAGE 17 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY. SEPTEMBER 17.1962 Continuing with a series of messages preparatory for baptism and-or church membership, Pastor Merle D. Conklin of the Wonder Lake Bible church will base his message Sunday, Sept. 19, on Matthew 28:18- 20, "Believer's Baptism". A bap tismal service is planned for Sunday afternoon, Oct. 24, at the Woodstock Bible church. Christian people who are interested in believer's baptism and-or church membership should inform the pastor and receive counseling before that time. The lesson for Sunday evening will continue the study of the book of Esther, chapters 3 and 4, entitled "Fate or Faith?" Phil Bell, Sunday school superin tendent, announced that some post cards from the ballon lift-off have already been returned. Those who were there for the lift-off are eagerly awaiting the.results of the contest. Dave and Shirley Madsen are also working with a group of eager people. They are the AWANA leaders who have been attending the training sessions preparing for the biggest and best year ever. The first group to meet will be the Pioneers and Guards Thursday, Sept. 23. This is the Junior high level. On Friday, Sept. 24, the Sparks, Pals and Chums will meet. This is the K through 6th grade level. AWANA activities are conducted at the Parkland school gym. A bus leaves from the church at 6:30 p.m. AWANA is open to all girls and boys who enjoy playing games, having fun, and learning about the world around them. They will be guided by well- trained, carefully supervised leaders who love working with children and young people. On Saturday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. the Fellowship Plus group will meet at the home of the Conklins. On Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 7:30 p.m., the Ladies Fellowship will meet to hear a message by Barb Brooke on "Creativity in the Home". At this meeting the women will also make tray favors for the residents of Valley Hi Nursing home. Those taking part should bring large empty thread spools, scraps of felt, ribbon, and glue. Also on the 21st, the Conklin Family Singers will be presenting a program of special music at a Bible conference at Indian Hills chapel, Ingleside, where Chuck Svoboda will be the speaker. Grayling Renke, a son of the congregation, and son of Lloyd and Ethel Repke, will be the speaker at the Wednesday Prayer & Praise hour, at 7:30 p.m. on the Gray will present a program on the work he and his wife, Katie, are in volved in with the Rocky Mountain Bible mission in Montana. All services, programs and ac tivities are open to the people in the community. Visitors are warmly welcomed to the Wonder lake Bible church, 7501 Howe road. MCHS Musicians At Band Day The McHenry Community high school band, under the direction of John Leighty and William Toalson, accepted an invitation from Nor thwestern university to appear at its twenty-sixth annual High School Band day. Members will compete in the first-time ever marching band competition on the Evanston campus on Saturday, Sept. 18. The winner of the competitive portion of the day will perform again at halftime of the N.U. vs. Miami (Ohio) football game at Dyche stadium before an anticipated crowd of 30,000 fans. The halftime performance will also include a performance by the nationally famous, 200-piece Nor thwestern university Wildcat mar ching band and a massed band spectacular with more than 1,500 student musicians taking part. The massed bands will be performing Raiders of the Lost Ark, arranged by Jay Bacook, and the "1812" Overture, arranged by John P. Paynter. The halftime display and concert will conclude with the Northwestern university Alma Mater performed by the musicians on the field and the spectators in the stands. High School Band day wa originated at Northwestern university by John P. Paynter, director of Bands and chairman of the Department of Conducting and Performing Organizations in the School of Music. Paynter and assistant directors, Don Owens and Dale J. Lonis, will share in the conducting of the massed bands. The McHenry band has appeared at all 26 band days, a record matched by only one other school, Geneva, 111. The spaniel family of dogs contains more breeds-ten-than any other.
