The U. of I. may have some kind of football team this year. We predicted they would hit stride in their third game , not realizing that Syracuse was the third. Swamping them Saturday may mean the Illini are ready to roll on to the Rose Bowl. Sat in our easy chair Saturday night and watched the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame beat Michigan 23 to 17T This was the first night game at Notre Dame. They don't need lights to fill the^tadium so it is as plain as the nose onyour face that increased TV revenue isr the answer. One writer said it was an idea advanced by the Michigan coach. I dunno. Hope the N.D.. parking lot was well lighted. We have seen people sear ching frantically for their cars in broad daylight. Suppose there never was a football game where somebody didn't leave their tickets on the piano. • Met a young man who knows a lot about feeding birds. Should have asked his name. One thing he told me is that blue jays will feast on peanuts in the shell. I know they are tough birds, but didn't know they would break the shells. Bird feeding time is drawing near so it behooves us to get ready for the busy winter. I call it feeding the livestock. Mrs. Ray (Betty) Smith phoned Sunday night to invite us down to the Fox Hole where preparations were under way for another of those famous fish fry treats. Anglers like George Rodenkirk, Ray Smith, Tom Sutton and their wives, have a private spot where they catch blue gills, then bring them to Fox Hole "Red" for his special treatment. Bob Blake (eating, but not fishing on this occasion; and Larry Nimsgern (missing). they taste better than a banquet. Dorothy Noonan kept setting those bluegills in front of us until it seemed we would be there for breakfast. George Rodenkirk brought in 71 fish and numbers 70 and 7 said they ed I atfe . Spirit's (formerly Martinetti's) is located about a mile off Rt. 31 on U.S. 14 (Northwest highway). GOD BLESS 400 At Annual Shamrock Picnic The first annual picnic, sponsored by the Shamrock club of Twin Lakes, was held although rain clouds hovered above. Over 400 Irish-Americans arrived on the picnic grounds wearing their brightest smiles and their brightest green. The next general membership meeting will take place Tuesday, Sept. 28, at St. John's Community center in Twin Lakes at 8 p.m. The Shamrock club of Twin Lakes is a non- political, r.cn profit making organization with a current membership of over 230 people. BOY SCOUT Cub Pack 162 Cub Scout Pack 162 is already off to a good starts Registration night at the local schools was very successful, and plans are being made to assure an exciting and fun filled year %r all Scouts and their families. For the September pack meeting an ice cream social is planned. It will be a good opportunity to meet other parents, new Scouts and Scout leaders. Because the economy has touched all lives in many ways, the scouting organization would like to help defray the cost of a new uniform by asking all those Scouts who have either outgrown or are not using their uniforms to consider donating them to Pack 162.
