SEPTEMBER 29,1982 cSociaC Women s Aglow Slates Luncheon Women's Aglow Fellowship of Crystal Lake-McHenry will host a luncheon Thursday, Oct. 7, at 10:30 a.m., at John Evans Inn, corner of Route 14 and Virginia road, Crystal Lake. Guest speaker will be Katina Nicholas, an evangelist-singer, who has an international ministry of singing and teaching the Word'of God. Ms. Nicholas won two gold medals in track and field as a teenager, but later on, after she became a supper- club singer, drugs (mainly heroin) became a way of life for 13 years. After many imprisonments, hospitalizations and surgeries due to drugs, she was reduced to living without hope and a slave of drugs and despair. . After an unsuccessful suicide at­ tempt, she was set free of drugs and her prison convictions were pardoned and erased. ^ Zion Ladies Aid Rummage Sale Sorority Chapter Hosts Outing BRETT DECKER .AND MARY JO GILPIN OCTOBER WEDDING -- Mary Jo Gilpin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Gilpin, Sr., of McHenry, and Brett Decker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Decker of McHenry, have planned an Oct 8, 1982 wedding. Both are graduates of the University of Illinois. Homemakers Sponsor Festival What comes to mind with the word Bangladesh? Starving People? Actually, it is known as "the Land of Green Horizons". Those interested in getting a more accurate picture of this complex Asiatic country and its people are invited to come to the International Festival sponsored by the McHenry County Homemakers Extension association, Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m., at the First Methodist church, 205 W. South street, Woodstock. Brian Sager, Agriculture adviser with the Cooperative Extension Service of McHenry County, spent two and a half years in Hong Kong and the Far East as a trade representative for the Illinois ~ Department" oi Agriculture. He will be sharing his experiences along with his many slides in this informative program. Other highlights of the day include a luncheon and a short slide presen­ tation on the International Peace Gardens in Canada. Cost for the day's activities, including the luncheon, is nominal. For reservation in­ formation, call 943-4117 before Oct. 3. The Bangladesh program will also be presented at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 20. a* the Farm Bureau building, Wood­ stock. Reservations for this session are not required. A special invitation is entended to all county 4-H members for this evening program. This, as well as many other H E A programs, is open to the public. Friendship ± Club Enjoys Dinner There were 38 members and guests in attendance when the Doxology was sung at the September Potluck Dinner of the Friendship club at the First United Methodist church in the Fellowship hall. In the absence of the presendent and vice-president. Past President Harold Wildhagen Resided and began the meeting by thanking the ladies for the delicious dinner. Guests Helen Schlaeger, June Tepper, and Carol and George Voelke were introduced; also, new members Miriam Marticke and Margaret Foute; all received a very warm welcome. Meditations were given by Gloria Cassell, which included the reading of Psalm 122, ending with prayer. Greetings were received from Florence Colby, now living in Utah, and all members present signed a PWP Attacks Procrastination The Crystal Lake Chapter of Parents Without Partners (PWP; will enthusiastically attack the dreaded disease of procrastination, Friday evening, Oct. 1, at its semi-monthly general meeting at the Crystal Bowl in Crystal Lake. With the help and guidance of Carol Vavroch, members and newcomers of PWP will learn how to direct and handle their motivations and rid themselves of the burdensome, nonproductive attacks of procrastination. Anyone who has ever been a victim of procrastination is urged to attend this meeting. An orientation for newcomers and potential members will take place at 8 p.m.; the business meeting will follow at 8:30 and Ms. Vavroch's program will begin at 9. PWP extends a welcome hand of friendship to all single parents who are divorced, widowed, separated or unmarried. Custody of children is not a requirement for membership. PWP meets for its general meetings on the first and third Fridays of each month at 8:30 p.m. at the Crystal Bowl in Crystal Lake. For more information about the group or details on any of the October events, one may call 653-3931. MT. HOPE CHURCH RUMMAGE SALE The well-known annual Fall Rummage Sale of Mt. Hope church will be held Saturday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. to l p.m. Included as always, will be a sale of delicious home-baked goods and a boutique of choice ar­ ticles Items may be brought to the church until Friday of this week. The church is located on Broadway in Pistakee Highlands. Plans are continuing for the Fall Rummage Sale which is sponsored by the Zion Ladies Aid. The doors will be open Thursday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Friday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place in the Social hall of Zion Lutheran church which is located at 4206 W. Elm street (Route 120) in McHenry. Friday will once again be a super bargain day when there will be only a minimal charge for a grocery bag full. COMMUNITY CALENDAR friendship card for her. OCTOBER 20 Whispering Oaks Woman's dub- Membership meeting, l p.m. Final plans have been arranged1 for the Mental Health Resource League for McHenry County's annual fall fashion show, "Country Couture", to be held at the picturesque Turnberry Country club in Crystal Lake, Tuesday, Oct. 12. This year's theme is "Home for the Holidays" and it will be reflected in all elements of the day, from invitations to table linens. Charming grape vine baskets tied with decorative holiday plaid ribbons will adorn the tables as centerpieces and will serve a dual purpose as some of the many unusual prizes for at­ tending. A well-known dothing store will present fashions highlighting fall and winter and holiday styles, including designer clothes. Approximately 40- 50 creations will be worn by McHenry county models and members of the league. Elegant evening wear, furs and high fashion resort wear will also be displayed. The luncheon menu will consist of beef and chicken crepes, tomatoes topped with cheese sauce, princess salad (a specialty of the chef) and chocolate mousse for dessert. In addition, several hundred Christmas ornaments and tree decorations will be displayed. Members of the league have been hard at work for months creating the unique gifts that will be available for purchase. Guests are invited to come at 10 a.m. and browse through the boutique or sample appetizers prepared by league members to complement a holiday champagne punch which will be available before the luncheon. A guest pianist will offer musical selections and each person attending the luncheon will receive her own copy of the league's cookbook, collection entitled, "Hors D'oeuvres and Appetizers".
