The Warriors battled the Tigers on even terms throughout the first half of play, only to make three costly mistakes that led to its defeat. Booth and Malone picked up 264 of the 265 rushing yards for the Tigers, as they time and time again ripped off yardage through the Warrior line. In a game played before a small Crystal Lake crowd on Mother's Night, the Tigers won its first Fox Valley tilt of the season and left the Warriors 0-2 in conference play. Warrior mistakes were costly in the game. There were not that many, but when they occurred, it was costly. Coach Joe Schlender remarked after the game, "Mistakes beat us. When you nave to fight uphill all the time, it's tough. Last week we intercepted for what I supposed was the winning touchdown, only to have it called back. Tonight, Rudman's 73 yard run called back, could have put us in the drivers seat at halftime." The Tigers scored first with just less than three minutes remaining in the initial period, when Tiger fullback Steve Booth went four yards for the touchdown. The extra point was good and the Tigers led 7-0. Taking the kickoff OB its own 35 yard line, The Warriors marched 65 yards to score. Clayton Lane's 16 yard run and Mike Love's 24 yard keeper, moved the ball to the Tiger 21. Then Love found Denny Shaver all alone in the end zone for the touchdown. Doug Mitsven split the uprights for the tying point and at the end of the first quarter, the score was 7-7. In the second period, after an exchange of punts, the Warriors took over on its own 27 yard line. Maiden Rudman broke a host of Tiger tackles and romped 73 yards for a touchdown, only to have it called back becuase of a Warrior guilty of holding. The rest of the period was spent between the 30 yard lines. The half ended 7-7. After a mishandled tiger punt by the Warriors on the one yard line, Love's second down pass was intercepted on the Warrior six yard line. Love finished the game with 63 yards rushing and completed three passes on nine attempts for 54 yards and he had three interceptions. Crystal LakeCentral defeated the Warriors 58-7. With 2:30 remaining, the Tigers intercepted a Warrior pass and on the first play. Booth raced 24 yards into paydirt for the final score. The kick was good and the Tigers went off the field a 28-7 victor. Rams Steal Skyhawks First Win JOHNSBURG FULLBACK -- Jim Bentz is on his way for a Skyhawk touchdown. Marian Central scored six straight touchdowns as the Hurricanes overpowered Marengo 41-12 in a football battle Friday night at the Indian's home field. The victory improved Marian' season record to 2-2 overall while Marengo fell to 1-3. Six different Hurricane players scored in the contest. The f^st touchdown came early in the game on a Marian fumble recovery at the Indian 20-yard line. 'Cane quarterback Chuck Hartlieb quickly took the ball in for a score with a nine-yard dash and John Miceli added the first of his five extra point kicks to give Marian a 7-0 lead. Oberembt, along with his coaches, players and the homecomming crowd watched in disbelief, as the Skyhawks lost a 10 point lead in the last four minutes of the game to the Rams. The Skyhawks final touchdown with 7:50 left, on a 31 yard pass by Jeff Jayko. gave Johnsburg a 24-14 lead. The Skyhawk players and coaches jumped up and down on the sideline in jubilation after that touchdown, as they could see victory number one in sight -- instead they experienced loss number four. Later on, Oberembt was able to recover from a very hard loss for him. "This was a terrible experience for all of us. We dominated the entire game and then gave it away." Johnsburg did dominate the majority of the game. The Skyhawks ended up with a 316 to 258 total offense edge over the Rams. The Skyhawks out gained the Rams on thp ground, 170-91, but the Rams did hold an edge in passing yardage 167 to 146. The Rams succeded in a two point conversion attempt, on a Kirby pass to Olson again and the Rams had a' 14-0 early lead. But, the Skyhawks came right back in the second quarter and scored two touchdowns. The first one came with 9:45 in the quarter. This time the Skyhawks used a punishing ground game to move the ball to the Ram 35 yard line, only to fumble the snap and Grayslake recoved the ball. But the Skyhawk defense held and the Rams punted the ball right back. With l:23"left in the quarter and the ball resting on its own 29 yard line, Jayko found Eric Bear all alone for a 28 yard pass. On the very next play, Jayko went back to pass again and hit Tom Huemann with a 43 yard scoring pass. Jayko, again, failed to connect on the two point conversion attempt. Johnsbure took off in the third quarter where it left off in the second quarter. Jim Bentz helped spark a drive that started on the 30 yard line, with a 21 yard run. The drive ended with a one yard run by Bentz into the end zone and the Skyhawks took the lead for the first time in the game, 18- 14. Jayko again failed to complete a pass for the two point conversion. The drive took up much of the quarter, with only 2:57 left. The Skyhawks took that 24-14 lead on Its next possession. This time Jayko handed the ball to his run- ningbacks, Bentz and Jim Hopp to move the ball from its own 23 yard line to the Ram 31 yard line. The drive ended, however, on a 31 scoring strike from Jayko to Hovseth. The Skyhawks clearly had control of the ball game. But the momentum slowly changed. After the Ram defense held the Skyhawks on a fourth down and four yards to go play at the Ram 34, Grayslake came back with a touchdown. With2:53 left in the game, Kirby found Palmieri with no defenders around him for a 30 yard scoring pass. The two point con version attempt was no good, becfmse an offensive pass interference call. The Rams completed the onside kick and Kirby on the next play, completed a 45 yard pass to Olson. "We have improved each week," said Oberembt. "We're much better ballclub than we were a month ago. Now we are at the point where we have to win." WARRIOR RUNNER-- Delia Saunders was the first girl to cross the finish line Thursday, during McHenry's only home meet. She finished at 12:30.
