The $1,325 grant will be used for salaries, music purchases and 'publicity. Equipment purchases ' cannot be made with grant money. * The orchestra's board is seeking matching funds to meet financial obligations according to orchestra manager, Marie Ann Vos. Part of the grant has been com mitted to Illinois composer George Flynn for an original composition for the orchestra's repertoire. One of the difficulties youth orchestra con ductors encounter, Thomas Wilson, 'music director and conductor of the 'orchestra explains, is finding music - that is scored for a youth orchestra's competence and is also challenging to ' young musicians. Recognition by the Music Advisory panel of the IAC attests to the quality 'and necessity of a program. Last ' season the McHCYO was awarded an "interim grant as a new organization. Part of that grant sponsored the appearance of the Milwaukee Youth orchestra in a benefit concert. This season the Greater Chicago Youth orchestra will perform a benefit concert to aid the McHCYO. It will be presented Nov. 21 at Jacobs high school. The Illinois Arts council distributes funds to performing arts organizations and other arts projects ranging from visual arts to musical enterprises. The council is composed of panels of experts in various fields of the arts. The funds it distributes are derived from state taxes and federal taxes through the National En dowment for the Arts. The concert season of the McHenry County Youth orchestra opens Dec. 4. It will feature excerpts from Handel's Messiah with the First Congregational church adult choir as guest performers. There will be a spring concert in May. Chamber ensembles from the or chestra will play a concert Dec. 5 as featured artists of the "First Sunday at Four" series at Lakeside center in Crystal Lake.
