ENJOY LONG WEEKEND Clarence and Ida Mae Adams, with their children, Doug, Chad, Tanya and Lincoln, traveled to Pennsylvania this past weekend to visit Ida Mae's brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Maya Walkington, and do some sightseeing. The folks were fortunate to have some good weather, a little cool? and the fall colors were beautiful. They spent a day in Pittsburgh where they toured Carnegie Institute, saw Three-Rivers stadium (couldn't miss that with little leaguers in the family) and also rode the incline up the mountain. It was a wonderful time for everyone. FAMILY REUNION The yearly family reunion of the Thomas clan (Doris Low belongs to it) met again at Bettendorf, Iowa with 75 people present. There were aunts and uncles and cousins by the dozens from Arizona, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. There were several tour-generation families represented and some present that haven't been to a reunion for several years. In fact, Doris' brother Darold and wife Lori, of Arizona and part of their family, brother Larry and Carry Lou and Kent of Michigan were there and of course sister Marge of McHenry and her mom. This is the first time for all five together at the family reunion since 1968. 'Twas a good time for all, and a delicious brunch prepared by all those aunts and cousins. The little ones got to go on their usual walk down by the Mississippi river with some of the younger adults this year. Visitors in the Walt Low and Mabels- Thomas home this past week were brother Darold Thomas and wife Lori and some of their family, from Phoenix, Mabel has accompanied her son and family home for the winter months at least. Victims Of Agoraphobia Should Contact Clinic Do you experience a shortness of breath, dizziness, dry mouth, dif ficulty swallowing, weakness or trembling accompanied by one or a combination of the following feelings: impending doom, losing control, going crazy, or the urge to run? You've checked with your doctor and he-she can find no medical explanation for your symptoms ... You also ex- pereince anxiety at the thought of entering or avoid completely going to shopping malls, stores, restaurants, theatres, church, large gatherings, being a passenger in a car, driving far from home, buses, trains or planes (essentially any place that doesn't have an easy way out). You may feel the necessity of taking a family member with on any of the above experiences, or completely avoid these situations. If any of these symptoms or combination of symp toms apply to you - you may be suffering from Agoraphobia. According to Marleen Lorenz, Project Director for the Agoraphobia clinic with the Human Development center, "many people suffering from Agoraphobia feel they are 'losing their minds' ". "Symptoms as well as reactions of Agoraphobics to situations vary which is why the diagnosing of agoraphobics is so difficult", stated Marleen Lorenz. One person may experience feelings of panic only when driving or going to a store while another person may not be able to leave his or her home. Problems are created for the family as well as the victim due to the alibis and excuses. Depression, isolation, a feeling of being different from others result- from the restricted lifestyle and lack of understanding by others. Marleen Lorenz added, "that frequently the person does not confide in others as the fears seem so unreasonable, even as they are ex perienced". If you or someone you know is ex periencing symptoms of agoraphobia please call Marleen Lorenz, 815-385- 6524. The Agoraphobia clinic includes education, relaxation training, field work, and assertiveness training. Please contact the Human Development center for additional programs as well, including Biofeedback, Weight Loss, Stress Management, and Future Women workshops at 385-6524. According to the U.S. Post Office, a postal card is one that has the stamp printed on it, a post card must be stamped.
