L Order County Police Chief Be Reinstated bv Angela Burden SHAW MEDIA NIWJ SERVICE The ruling of a local judge that former Woodstock Police department employee Donald Madsen "was improperly discharged" and an order for the city to reinstate him still stands. Judge Leonard Brody, 19th Judicial Circuit, ordered the city to reinstate Madsen "to his former position with pay and benefits," in February 1981. The court issued the decision on a lawsuit brought against the city by Madsen, a former supervisor in the communications division of the police department. Earlier this year, the Illinois Ap pellate court affirmed Brody's ruling, which the city had appealed. Not satisfied with the Appellate court decision, the city then petitioned the Illinois Supreme court for a rehearing. The higher court has now denied the city's petition for leave to appeal, which, according to a court spokesman this morning, "in essence means the Supreme court upheld the Appellate court and Judge Brody." Madsen said he is prepared to return to his job "pending advice from my lawyer." "I'm glad, really happy. I knew I was right from the beginning, but it's taken 3Ms years. All I did was stand up for my rights and my principles." Madsen brought suit against the city claiming he was fired from his position when he exercised his freedom of speech and the con stitutional rights of his subordinates. Madsen's position was terminated in June 1979, after personnel under his supervision appeared as a group before the City Council to object on a classification and pay scale, repor tedly without the knowledge of the police chief and city manager. According to city policy, Madsen was required to go through the chain of command when grievances were to be aired. Madsen claimed he had exhausted all efforts through the .chain of command for satisfaction of the grievance and he then encouraged his subordinates to go directly to the City Council. "My Fair Lady" Opens Soon "My Fair Lady" will open Nov. 5 at the Woodstock Opera House, with following performances Nov. 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19 and 20. On opening night, Nov. 5, the Townsquare Players will host an after-the-show reception at the Court House Inn in Woodstock, with the cast from "My Fair Lady" as the honored guests. There are few musicals in which every sons is a hit, but Lerner and Loewe's "My Fair Lady" comes very close. With such favorites as "Wouldn't It Be Loverly", "I Could Have Danced All Night", "On The Street Where You Live", "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face" to name just a few, "My Fair Lady" is a glowing experience which never fails to delight audiences. Heading the cast for the Town- square Players production are Chris O'Reilly of Crystal Lake as Professor Henry Higgins, and Jacque Divirgilio of Waukegan as Eliza Doolittle. Rounding out the main cast are Ron Ferraro of Crystal Lake as Pickering, A1 Smith of McHenry as Doolittle, Mike Erdman of Elgin as Freddy, Betty Leslie as Mrs. Higgins, Kris Palm of Elgin as Mrs. Pearce, Kathy Campbell of Crystal Lake as Mrs. Eynsford Hill, and Amy Dalton of Crystal Lake as Lady Boxington. "My Fair Lady" is being directed by Tony Casalino of Woodstock, with Dick Austin of Woodstock as musical director, and Missy Spengel of Crystal Lake as choreographer. All seats are reserved. Further ticket information may be obtained By* calling the Woodstock Opera House from noon to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at (815) 338-5300. Al most alone among newly in dependent nations, it has had no coups, no mass rioting, no tribal wars. Ivoirians have the highest standard of living in black Africa, and their per capita income is one of the continent's highest. National Geographic says. The hosts of Bull Valley Scare are gearing up again for "an experience in fright you may never forget." In its first two years of operation, the spook house drew over 10,000 people from the McHenry county area. The Youth group of the Crystal Lake Evangelical Free church has made numerous changes in Bull Valley Scare this year, so that over 75 percent of the special effects are new. Thousands of dollars of electrical and lighting equipment will be utilized by the 160-member staff and students. A special multi-media show on the topic of "Death" will be presented at the end of the spook walk. For the very first time, there will be a special spook walk for children ages 5-11. This will be presented at half of the regular price. The Children's Spook Walk will be open Saturday, Oct. 30, from 2 to 5 p.m. Bull Valley Scare occupies the same location as the first two years--7203 W. Mason Hill road (one mile west of Walkup) and will be open to the public Oct. 28 (7 to 10 p.m.), Oct. 29 (7 to 11 p.m.) and Oct. 30->(2 to 5 p.m. - children: 6 to 11 p.m. - all others). It's a good idea to insulate hot water pipes running from your heater to faucets if the distance is very far. ^WaCtonLan <Sufifiz% dCub (312) 587-IMS 175 WALTONIAN TERRACE FOX LAKE, ILL. £njoy CJfle ^Incit CfiLnti.t duL±lnc (Dvtifoo&lnc) <Sfioxe Of 13 tau tlfuC Dox Jlaltt... done. .Sty JSoat (Dt Siy da%...
