The college, which specializes in professional education in financial sciences, awarded the designations at its 55th national conferment exercises held Oct. 5 in New York City. The program provides an un derstanding of the financial services environment and the financial planning process, as well as working knowledge of such subjects as income taxation, economics, financial statement analysis, insurance, in vestments, real estate, tax shelters, and estate and gift tax planning. Attending DePaul university, Neumann received the Chartered Life Underwriters designation in 1976. All members of the 1962 Chartered Financial Consultant class, the first at the American college, are CLUs and must meet rigid educational, ex perience, and ethical standards established by the college's board of trustees. When Halloween rolls around each year, it isn't always a time for treats. In many American communities, it J often is a time for tricks. The McHenry County* . Board of Realtors is aware that Halloween frequently is an opportunity for minor and major acts of vandalism to homes and property. To prevent needless damage to your home, we offer some constructive suggestions for homeowners: -One way to discourage vandals is simply to keep your property in good condition. A well-cared-for house and yard tends to make Halloween celebrants wary. On the other hand, a poorly maintained property usually is a tempting target. - To prevent outright theft, tem porary removal, or acts of vandalism, clear your yard of such items as lawnmowers, hoses, barbecues, grills, and outdoor furniture. Benefit Plan Conference Jack Admas, 3722 W. Maple avenue, McHenry, trustee for the Painters' District Council No. 30, Pension fund, was in Montreal, Oct. 15-20, par ticipating in the twenty-eighth annual educational confercence of the In ternational Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. Theyconference, sponsored by die nations largest educational organization in the employee benefits field, provided an up-to-date assessment of the problems, prospects and status of the nation's private health, welfare and pension plans. More than 80 different topifis were presented by experts in the field to the 5,000 registrants. The International foundation, headquartered in suburban Milwaukee, Wis., is a non-profit membership organization which provides a continuing educational forum through the year for employee benefits funds and the specialists and professionals who operate and advise them. - Lock your car and lock sheds and other outdoor storage facilities as well. - Use whhatever outdoor lighting you have - porch lights, garage or carport lights, patio or yard lights. Indoor lights should be switched on, too. - Encourage community leaders to sponsor trick-or-treat ventures in daylight or early evening hours. - Suggest adult supervision of youthful door-to-door visitors. This will deter youngsters from being influenced by their less disciplined and older counterparts to engage in acts of vandalism. At the same time, it will protect children from, "tricks" by adults. Lead the way by volun teering some of your own time to be withthe children. While Halloween is just once a year, vandalism is a year-around problem that calls for concerted action by all citizens, especially property owners. Positive action community programs aimed at redirecting the energies of young people are strongly supported by the National Association of Realtors through its Make America Better Vandalism Prevention program. With community caring and action, we can turn potential plunder into positive pride. The cost of vandalism could be better spent on educating young peopple to respect the rights of others and expect that same respect in turn for their own rights and property.
