SKynawks want More wins Finally winning game number one, the Johnsburg Skyhawks are hungry to finish the season with a few more victories. With two more games to go in the football season; two possible wins could boost the Skyhawks record just one game under .500 for the season. That wouldn't be too bad for a team that started as basement dwellers without a win. That kind, ojf finish is exactly what Skyhawk Coach Randy Oberembt is looking for. "That's what we're pointing towards. We got that first victory and we want to go on from there." The first roadblock on the way to that goal is Round Lake Saturday. Round Lake is 2-3 in the Northwest Suburban Conference and 3-4 overall. Oberembt feels his team can play with the Panthers. "We feel we can compete with them. They beat Grayslake by a touchdown and had a very close game with Lake Zurich, so its hard too tell how westackup with them. The Skyhawks defeated Lake Zurich last Saturday for their first win. Round Lake has scored 137 points on the year, _giving up 138. The Skyhawks, on the other hand, is ranked 10th in McHenry County of­ fense, scoring 70 points and a 10.0 average. Defensively, Johnsburg is ninth with 152 points and a 21.7 average. According to Oberembt, the Pan­ thers have some outstanding athletes in Terry Cheeks at the flanker position, who has real good speed and John Gulford a back at 5-9 and 195 pounds. He also said they have a real good guard in Ron Kowronski. The key, says Oberembt, is to play "all around defense." He said they will throw the tall deep, which has hurt the Skyhawk defense many times. But Oberemt was happy with the pass defense last week. " "I'm happy with last week's five interceptions. We've shown a real improvement. We have to play that kind of defense or we wUl be in trouble. We really did a fine job. The secondary played well. Offensively, Oberembt says, "We worked on some things we thought might be- successful against them. But we will basically run the same offense we have been running all year." BABER IMMEDIATE BEUVERY County To Get NSFL Football Franchise JACK MCCARTHY SHAW MEDIA NEWS SERVICE WOODSTOCK -- The semi-pro Red Devils football team is shifting their home base from Delavan, Wis. to McHenry County, team president and general manager Bill Downs has announced. The announcement confirms a report from last summer indicating that the Northern States Football League franchise could be moved here. "A place to play is not for sure at this time," Downs said in a statement. "But Marian Central H.S. has indicated that they Are interested. "I have put this organization together because I believe that Minor League Football has a future and I do not intend to give it up," he added. "We will be forming a board of directors and have an election of officers in the very near future." The team has been chartered as a not-for-profit Illinois organization and has officially severed all ties with the Delavan Red Devils. "The team will still play in the Northern States Football League and will be playing in McHenry County," Downs stated. "We will provide a sound and respectful team on the field and plan to use as much of the local talent that is interested," he added. NSFL officials must still approve the transfer and the league has scheduled a Nov. 20 meeting to consider the franchise shift. "So far, I see no problem with Bill taking over the franchise," said league spokesman PatPisellini. "We assume there will be a peaceful (franchise) transfer." League officials have already expressed informal support for Downs' move," she added.. Downs was general manager of the Delavan club, but severed all relationship with the organization when he made this week's move. It is not known if any Delavan officials would raise objections to the NSFL. Pissellini said she has not heard any as yet. Downs had expressed continued dissatisfaction with playing conditions at Delavan's Veterans Park and was continually stymied in a bid to secure a Wisconsin H.S. field as a home. So he began testing the waters south of the state line. The Red Devils hosted a regular season game at Harvard's Dan Home Field in mid-summer. Although the attendance wasn't as high as he had hoped, Downs was encouraged. A McHenry County base could be much stronger than in southern Wisconsin in both potential fan support and player availability. The county's population is twice that of Walworth County, Wis. according to 1980 U.S. Census Bureau figures.
