Present Blithe Spirit PAGE 17 - PLAINDKAI RINGWOOD NEWS Doris Low 653-9262 Koty Christopher 385-8037 In this scene from Blithe Spirit, Maureen Serritelia, as Madame Srcati, lies on the floor as other cast members view the prone figure. From left are Eenee Jensen as Elvira, Jeff Wallace as Charles, Mariann Mayberry as Ruth, Eric Gaza as Dr. Bradman and Jill Kuhns as Mrs. Bradman. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD The West Campus Drama club presents its fall comedy Blithe Spirit, to be presented Nov. 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. in the West campus auditorium. The Noel Coward comedy concerns the two wives of Charles Condomine: one living, (Ruth) one dead (Elvira), but nevertheless kicking. After a madcap seance, Elvira's spirit - summoned by the eccentric Madame Arcati - refuses to leave. When a vase moves about the rooitfft&en Ruth believes her husband's report that Elvira has come back, but neither knows of her scheme to make Charles a spirit, too. Tickets for Blithe Spirit may be reserved in advance by contacting the West campus main office, or they may be purchased at the door. No More Whistle To Tell Time By The folks of Ringwood and the surrounding area will not be hearing the Morton Chemical whistle at 8 a.m., noon, 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. The whistle has broken and the management doesn't believe its worth fixing since there are other means in the plant to alert the workers the time to work and to leave work. This may all be-- but the town folk won't be able to set their watches and clocks to the correct time. There are a lot of town folks who depend on the sound of the whistles as a pattern of their daily lives. ; This reporter made a few contacts and these are the comments made by some of the local folks who will miss the whistle the most. "My Gosh, I won't be able to keep my watch on time...." "It's something to look forward to hearing when it's lunch time...." "It'll be kind of strange without it ~ We won't know what time it is...." "Heavens, my kids won't know when to go to the school bus. In fact there are a lot of kids that depend on the whistle to know what time it is, especially in the morning." "The men, when working outside will miss it because they have depended on hearing it to go in to lunch...." "Oh my, I never wear my watch when working in the yard or garden, so I depended on the 4:30 whistle to know when to quit and go in to get dinner started for my husband.../' "That whistle is just a part of our little town and it won't be the same without it...." We have figured that it has been nigh onto 40 years or more that the whistle has been blowing at Morton Chemical and many folks have pat terned their - lives around it. We do hope that the Morton Chemical company will reconsider and have the whistle fixed so that the people of Ringwood and the surrounding area can get back to life without the feeling that something is missing. "The Passing of an Era!" Well, we certainly hope not!
