Richmond road, McHenry, will celebrate their fiftieth wedding •anniversary Saturday, Nov. 20. The 5 p.m. Mass at the Church of St. Mary of .the Assumption, McHenry will be offered for the intention of the couple on this memorable occasion. At 6 o'clock a dinner and Open House will be held at the Johnsburg Community club. Mr. Blake and the former Florence ^reund were united in holy matrimony at St. Mary's church Nov. 12, 1932. They have three children, STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Kenneth and his wife Jane of Watertown, Wis.; Mrs. Joan Chase and her husband Vern of Elk Grove Village, 111.; and Dan and his wife Paula of Peru, 111. They are grand parents of nine. Mrs. Blake was bom in Solon Mills and lived in the McHenry-Johnsburg area all her life. Her husband was born and raised on the farm where the couple still reside and'he retired from farming about 10 years ago. They are both members of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and she belongs to the Christian Mothers society. Scholarships Announced For r i National Teenager Pageant The twelfth annual Miss Illinois National Teenager Pageant will be held at Kirkland Fine Arts Center on the campus of Millikirf university May 14, 1983. The Illinois winner will* receive a $1,000 cash scholarship; a $4,000 tuition scholarship from Millikin university in Decatur, 111.; an all expense paid trip to compete in the national pageant in Lehigh, Fla; a full modeling course scholarship and other prizes. Millikin university will award a $4,000 tuition scholarship for the talent winner and will award a $2,000 tuition scholarship for a speech competition award. Two Illinois participants, a high school senior and an underclassman, will be selected to receive a citizen ship award, based on scholastic achievement and leadership, and will receive a $4,000 tuition scholarship to Eckerd college in St. Petersburg, Fla; each will then be considered ^regionally for one of ten $10,000 tuition scholarships and a national citizen ship award will go to two in the amount of $20,000 from Eckerd college. • An Illinois participant willl be selected for a full two-year tuition scholarship from Johnson and Wales college in Providence, R. I. - Each Illinois finalist will par ticipate in the Volunteer Community Service program, which is designed to McHENRY MARKET PLACE 385-4100 TVei" Mom's Discussion Group Meets To Share Experiences Celebrates 100 Years The New Mom's Discussion group will meet Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m. and this is open to all new moms. The group offers mothers and their babies a time and a place to come together to share the positive and negative ex periences of parenting and discuss the feelings that accompany motherhood during the baby's first year. One need not be a first time mother to attend. For more information about the group and location of the meeting, those interested may contact the group's leader, Mrs. Carl M. (Debbie) Wright of Crystal Lake. The Childbirth and Parenting Association of McHenry County, sponsor of the group, offers its members support and information to help with their important roles as parents, but one need not be a member of C.fcP.A. to attend the New- Mom's group. Other services offered by C.&P.A. include a bimonthly newsletter, discussion groups for working moms and moms of tots, children's holiday parties, playgroups for preschoolers and meetings which feature authorities speaking on subjects of concern and interest to parents. Meeting The November general meeting of the United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist church of McHenry will be held Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m., at the church, and the Evening Circle will be hostesses. Following a brief meeting, the program will be a plastics ware demonstration party. All women of the church are invited and urged to come and bring their friends and relatives for an evening of fun and fellowship. MARTIN HANS STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Friday, Nov. 12, was a "Red Letter" day for Martin Hans, when he cut the first piece of a beautifully decorated cake in honor of his one-hundredth birthday. Mr. Hans was born Nov. 11,1882, in Kluc, Yugoslavia and came to the United States at the age of 19. Among many other affiliations, he had been president and later chairman of the board of Burton Auto Spring Corp., Chicago; belonged to the Truck Trailer Manufacturers Assn.; Leaf Spring Institute of Detroit; Zora Singing Society; and was one of the founders of the Croatian Fraternal Lodge, Des Plaines, 111. He and his wife Marie resided at 414 Waters Edge drive, McHenry, the past four years, spending the cold months at their winter home in De Land, Fla. It was in July of 1982 that Mrs. Hans reluctantly made the decision, at age 88, that she was no longer able to take care of him at home. Since that time, Mr. Hans has been a resident of Royal Terrace, McHenry. Nov. 25 will mart; another important day in their lives when the couple observes their seventy-second wedding anniversary. The Hanses are parents of four children; Harry, with his wife Evelyn of McHenry; Doris Hejna and her husband John of Dunedin, Fla.; and Marguerite Campagna of Fowler, Ind. Their son Robert passed away four years ago. They have 16 grandchildren including Jim and Harry Hans, Jr.; Carolyn Pereira; Barbara Tompkins; Dora Hines; Allen, Paula and Charles Dombrow; Donna Rakow; Carla Blum; Charlotte Summers; Mary Ann Tone; Judy Nicholls; and Richard.
