Farm Bureau Policies To Be Legal Notlc• Developed December 5-8 McHenry County Farm Bureau members are preparing for the 1982 Illinois Farm Bureau annual meeting Dec. 5-8 at Chicago as they con centrate on harvesting a bumper corn crop. High production costs and low prices paid for most farm products will be a dominating theme as more than 400 voting delegates gather for the convention at the Palmer House. The federal program to encourage farmers to reduce production and steps taken to increase exports will be equally vital issues as members discuss policies to guide the organization in 1983. McHenry County Farm Bureau members have chosen their voting delegates, headed by the president, Mel Von Bergen, Hebron farmer. Others are Rob Richardson, Spring Grove; Tom Lillegard and Bill Becker, Crystal Lake; Paul Kruse, Woodstock; and Roger Sass, Marengo. Alternates are Bill Olbrich, Har vard; Dave Gardner, Solon Mills; Phil Gourley and Gary Aavang, Woodstock; Roland Bauer, McHenry ; and Bob Berschet, Marengo. ' One of the unusual matters to be decided will be the selection of a president. The president is elected annually from the membership at large by the voting delegates. For the first time, an incumbent president is being challenged. Harold Steele, Princeton hog farmer, has been president since 1970. Allan Aves, Kirkland farmer who is president of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau and past president of the American Soybean association, appeared before the McHenry County Farm Bureau board earlier this month to explain his reasons for seeking the office. He said the only way to challenge an incumbent when no tenure is in force is for a candidate to seek the position and present his credentials. While he believes the quality of the staff is generally professional, he advocated greater IAA board and general membership involvement in his talk at Woodstock. The policy of both state and national Farm Bureau leaders in refusing to cooperate with other farm organizations frustrates Aves. He cited an example of the leading German farm organization leader making a point to visit the AFBF headquarters, only to be brushed off. This was representative of examples voiced by others concerning both IAA and AFBF policies in past years. "Other farm organizations have an impact, and Farm Bureau needs to improve its working relationship," said Aves. "That doesn't mean changing policy but I do believe in cooperation and working for the general good of agriculture." Card Design Winner-McHenry County college art student Dan Vitous of Cary discusses his Christmas card design with college president Robert Bartiett, right. Vitous' pen and ink drawing depicting a family returning home with their Christmas tree was the winner in this year's competition to choose an official college Christmas card. The card is sent by Bartiett and his wife, Rosemary, to local and statewide organisations each year. A version of the card without Bartlett's signature will also be sold at cost at the college's student Christmas sale. Vitous' design was chosen from among more than 25 submitted by MCC students. / " ' •' ' • 1 m '< ftrtttU ftfi 10 C NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Board of Education of School District Number 158, in the County of McHenry, State of Illinois, that amended budget for said School District for the fiscal year begin ning July 1,1982, will be (HI file and conveniently available to public in spection at 2926 W.
