Board President Bobbie Hart said people don't know everything the Booster Club offers and that obviously the support group was eroding. "Its future is bleak," Tofler added. She urged the board not to eliminate anything because of this. Tofler had asked the board to reduce the Booster Club commitment from $3,600 to $2,500. She said they would meet the $3,600 figure thisyear, but anything scared fund more than $2,500 tor next year her group. Toiler also outlined their raising projects with fewer particiapting and the activities supported with money. These include sending student trainers to summercamp, conducting physcial night, a P. E. suit service which returned a small profit which in turn was used to buy uniforms and pay fees for would be athletes with meager fiscal resources. The group is also active in honoring athletes with pictures and awards, helping with cheerleader uniforms, paying fees for entry events at the Crystal Lake Park District, for operating pep buses and conducting award night. Tofler saiicT they would do anything they could so no program is cut. "However, we need help," she said. Tofler said for the next year the board could help by reducing the commitment by $1,100. She pointed out the community needs the school programs, otherwise "Johnsburg offers kids nothing." Board members agreed the wrestling program, which was bong supported by Booster Club contribution, now seems able to be justified for restoration into the regular school program because of participation and community support. Member Gerald Sobiesk suggested the recommendations for this should come from the school athletic department since they recommended the reductions in their programs in the first {dace. Member Stephen Webel urged the school maintain the "core" athletic programs and let the booster club support such things as buses and equipment purchases. The Warriors have 10 seniors out for the squad, four of which saw some action last season. A total of seven returning lettermen return from a squad that had a rough time last season with a 3-11 conference record and 3-19 overall. Ken Ludwig, the 14-year veteran Warrior coach had a rough time with the seniors in 1961-82. They all quit on him and left him with juniors and sophomores to fill out the squad. But Ludwig feels this season will be whole different story. "We have a lot of experience coming back," said Ludwig. "If we play up to our potential, we should be very competitive." Ludwig sees the Fox Valley as a six team race with Crystal Lake South and Jacobs as the top teams. Right behind them in the race, according to Ludwig, will be McHenry, Dundee, Woodstock and Crystal Lake Central. Ludwig describes the Fox Valley Conference as big and to be a con tender, they will have to control the boards. "We will run a double post," ex plained Ludwig. "We will try to keep the big kids around the basket and we will fast break. "We will try to pressure throughout {lift ballgame. We are not a real big team. My philosophy is you can make up for that." Ludwig figures two juniors will help neutralize the opponents big players. One is 6-foot-6 Mark Peterson, a returning lettermen. The other is 6- foot-3 Scott Corey. Peterson scored 38 points last seasonlor the Warriors. At the present time, Ludwig figures 6-foot-3 Steve Babb and Peterson will start at the post, but Corey will give than " a real tussel". Babb is another returning lettermen. Last season's top scorer's, Mike Bauml and Bill Hermann will fill out the wing positions. Both are Seniors and returning lettermen. Bauml scored 140 points and Herpiann 125 KEN LUDWIG points. Also helping out at that position will be returning lettermen Randy Buenzli and jimior s Jim Jablonski and Ross Vehring. Buenzli scored 22 points last season. Other returning lettermen filling out the squad are; 5-11 Gary Freund and Randy Lively. Another key for a successful season, according to Ludwig will be the ability to hit the outside shot. "We have to be consistent on outside shooting. You have heard about gomg to Peoria and Cleveland, but Pittsburgh ranks right up among those towns you would like to stay away from anytime. Him, bridges, tunnels, along with the worst drivers in the country. However, their attitude about high school football is all you ever heard or read about in the past years. Visiting with a couple of fans at breakfast Sunday morning, the conversation turned to high school football and the playoffs that were taking place in both states. One of the gentlemen remarked that his son played on a suburban team in the Pittsburg area and won their first game on Saturday. He went on to add the school had an enrollment of 2300 and they average 11,500 in attendance for five home games the past season. He also added the team was onjjjr third in attendance figures for their conferspce. I freely admitted the Fox Valley Conference didn't do quite as well this season in that kind erf attendance. Naturally I got in a dig about the "Fighting Irish" and their win over the University of Pittsburg and the gentlemen admitted the Pitt Panthers were outplayed. But they added, "the Pitt-Penn State game will be the game of the year, not only in the East, but the entire country. We shall wait and see about that game. Some more bouquets this week, again to Chris Creutz the fine sophomore runner on the Warror cross country team who finished 18th in the state, breaking the 15 minute barrier he richly deserved. On The Sidelines By Dick Rabbitt The last hope of the county, the Richmond Rockets, put it to Oregon last Saturday by the tune of 44-0. The Rockets host Bloocnington Central Catholic Saturday. This is Greg Johnson's alma mater. Maybe I can get our principle in a friendly wager on the outcome. The class 2-A school to the north of us is rated number one in the polls and bearing an upset should take the state title. I know a lot of Warrior fans will be in Richmond tomorrow to watch the Rockets play. I have seen them twice this year and they are a good ball chib. Marian Central is dropping out of the Northwest Suburban Catholic Conference and joined the Northwest Suburban Conference. They will be joining Marengo, Johnsburg, Grayslake, Grant, Lake Zurich, Round and Wauconda. I'm sure all Marian fans welcome this move -- no more long trips and a conference that is competitive. Denny Shaver and John Clewis for their first team selection on the Elgin Courier All-area team. Shaver along with Todd Rehberg on the second team ; Denriv as a receiver and Todd as a lineman. Mladen Rudman picked honorable mention honors. up _ personally believe this is a good move for the Woodstock school and their chances for success will be much greater than competing linst Benet and Immaculate Conception of Hie Warriors will open the 1962-83 basketball season next Friday night against tht host school Sycamore m the annual Sycamore Holiday tourney.
