Well, think again! Hand-decorated eggs are moving beyond springtime Easter baskets to evergreen boughs on December 25th. Christmas eggs give you a hr#nd new way to add home spun creativity to your holiday festivities. Best of all. this project is fun and easy enough to involve the entire family. To begin your egg craft, set aside several fresh, white eggs. Using a sharp pin. poke a small hole in the narrow end of the egg. and a slightly larger hole in the opposite end. Holding the egg over a bowl, blow through the smaller hole until the eggshell is compictcly empty. (To avoid waste, unc these eggs for baking Christmas treats!) Next, rinse the eggshells with water to remove their nat ural protective coating. Since water is bound to seep into the shell through the small holes, let the egg drain upright in a small container for an hour or so. The tun really begins with color! Once you've decided on the design or character you want to create, it's easy to change your eggshell from white to virtually any shade imaginable. Simply mix a hot concen trated dye solution using your choice of colorful Rit Dyes.
