McHenry county farmers, bankers and business men are organizing to aid distressed milk producers, who by reason of the latest cut in the price of milk for the Chicago market are finding it impossible to make ends meet. , The Plaindealer is throwing wide open the door of opportunity for the churches to profit by the means of a little spare time and effort on the part of the members of various organizations. Frank Blake is using crutches as the result of an injury to his heel. The accident happened when he fell from a ladder at his home near Lily Lake. Friends of Ernest Useman, son of the senior Ernest Usemans, will be happy to learn that the young man has been named first alternate to attend the U.S. Naval academy at Annapolis next summer. The young man took a competitive exam in Rockford last June and was informed of his rating this week by United States Representative Russell Kenny. Er nest is a 1957 graduate of McHenry high school, and a freshman at the University of Illinois, where fie is taking a pre-journalism course. Gary Vogt received a trophy in recognition of being named by teammates as the outstanding football player for the M.C.H.S. Warriors An the season just ended. A former local resident, Vene Deneman Cermak of Antioch, gave birth to triplets, a boy and two girls, in St. Therese hospital, Waukegan. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of December 8, 1972). Further steps were taken at the McHenry City Council meeting toward the eventual construction of sanitary sewer lines in the Lakeland Park-Lakeland Shores area. Marian Central Catholfc high school will offer the SRA (Science Research Associates) high school placement battery to all interested eighth graders. Students may write the battery at 9 a.m. or 2 p.m. The high school placement batterywill provide a comprehensive analysis of the students' skills and abilities in the areas of reading, language, arts, arithmetic, modern mathematics, social studies and science methodology. Change Recycling Location Due to the crush of Christmas shoppers in the McHenry Market Place, the McHenry County Defen ders recycling drives which are scheduled for the month of December will be held in the north parking lot of the McHenry high school West campus, 4724 West Crystal Lake road. Saturday, Dec. 4, the drive will be co- sponsored by the Busy Bears 4-H club led by Ms. Peggy Boggs and will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Items which can be recycled include newspapers (with no magazines, cardboard or junk mail included), bottles and jars which have all metal and plastic removed, "tin" (steel) cans which have been rinsed and flattened, used motor oil in plastic or metal containers tightly stoppered, and aluminum scrap of all kinds. An aluminum can-pay-back plan will be in effect whereby 20 cents per pound will be paid for all-aluminum cans, with a bonus of 1 cent per pound if the cans are crushed and an ad ditional penny per pound if they are clean and free of bi-metal cans. DRAWING WINNERS--Montini Middle school students Freddie Ballstaedt, right, of the fifth grade and Sean Reilly of the sixth grade were the winners of their school's Holiday Art Festival. Their drawing entries have been submitted to Chicago Television Station WTTW Channel 11 and may be televised during the coming holiday season during station breaks or promotional fillers. This tradition of televising children'* artwork during the winter holiday season was originated by Television Station WTTW a few years ago and always has been well received by viewers. It was a short meeting with a very small audience. A new item discussed was the little grocery store. There are new owners, and they have applied for a liquor license. Hopefully, this means that it will open soon. With winter on the way, it will be very convenient to be able to pick up the essentials only a few blocks away from the house. P " Elections are coming up in April. There will be three trustees going out of office. Theses are four year terms, and anyone interested, male or female, can pick up candidate petitions at the village clerk's office.
