STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLOftD? 4-H News I Insect Seekers The Insect Seekers 4-H club of Johnsburg held its November meeting Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Griggs residence. A report was given on the 4-H awards banquet held earlier this month. The following members received county and state recognition: Debby Griggs, a seven-year member, received State Outstanding Achievement medal, Conservation medal, Entomology blue award, Forestry blue award, Health medal, County Leadership medal, Public Speaking award, Junior Leader certificate and pin for Entomology, Forestry and Conservation, the U. of I. Camping certificate for Outdoor Skills Training, and the top county award for outstanding work in all areas of 4-H, the Key award. A commendable year for Debby. Jamie Griggs received the Blue award and State Project honors for Entomology; Wendy Petersen received her Entomology pin and Project honors for Forestry. Our leader. Mrs. Griggs, received her 5- year pin. Other members not attending the banquet received the following: Ernie Demers, three-year pin; Marsha Demers, three-year pin and junior leader Pin and certificate in Arts & Crafts; Suzy Griggs, State Project honors in entomology. Five of our members attended an officers' training workshop held annually in Woodstock. Two representatives from the Crystal Lake Park district, Dennis Ainger, a recipient of the county's top treasurer award; Judy Vyduna, a past 4-H secretary; and Alberta England, a 4- H leader, conducted the different segments. Our members found it very informative. Also discussed was a recycling project at the Woodstock Area Recyclers (W.A.R.) to be held later next year. It was noted that Debby Griggs won the Logo Design contest opened to Woodstock area junior high and high schoolers. The winning motto was War on Waste. She won a trip to the state recycling convention held in Chicago. They toured other recycling stations and learned more about how and what to recycle. Our service project for November was donating food and decorating Thanksgiving boxes for the FISH organization. Ernie Demers and Debby Griggs also offered their services to help prepare the boxes for delivery at St. Patricks church in McHenry. The next meeting will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Demers residence. Frederick the Great, of Prussia, had his coffee made with champagne instead of water! Time For Another Christmas has come an gone; the New Year is waiting in<tfi wings. |. The few bri^f days between the tw holidays pass slowly for some of us- The Christmas observance - an| ticipated, prepared for, lived to tha fullest - is suddenly over. The Nevl Year reminds nearly all of us that it is time to consider where we have beenf where we are, and, most importantly* where we are going. * Self-consideration could well begi with a review of the Christmal holidays. The gifts given and receiv will not be best remembered. Th mind will more quickly recall tokei of love, expressions of friendship,\th outstretched reach of a helping hanc If the best memories of Christma reflect the value of things that mone; can't buy, the coming of the New Yea becomes more valuable because i will provide both time and opportunit to build a better life.
