® (D 0 O Warriors Start Fox Valley Action The McHenry Plaindealer friend Dave Mihevc gets out his Ouija Board for the picks in the Fox Valley. This season I told him I would put my picks along with his choices in conference play. The Ouija says, Crystal Lake South 12-2, Jacobs 11-3, Dundee S-5, McHenry 7-7, Central 6-8, Crown 3-11 and Cary-Grove 1-13. My picks with no wins or losses are, Crystal T.nkP South, Central, Jacobs, Woodstock, Dundee, McHenry, Crown and Cary-Grove. The Fox Valley is getting no respect this season. In the Chicago area not one of the teams is picked in the top 25, nor is a player picked in the top 50. I'll say the Fox Valley may not have a team in the top group, but they will have a player, there is one in the conference that could be an outstanding player, but we will wait and see what happens during the year. It is time to once again go down memory lane and we take to the 1970-71 season when the Warriors really put on the back-burners and defeated Dundee by the score of 89-59. Once again if any of you former Warriors have a game you would like to see published give me call. My records go back a long way -- 1920 to be exact. (Box score on page 7.) coach, took over the position of 1>opbomore coach at Plainfield High School. The team as freshmen went 0-18 last season. Last weekend in a holiday tourney at YorkviOe, the Plainfield soph's won the tourney, going undefeated. I know Ken and Jeanie are quite proud of their offspring. To our many Richmond readers, you can be proud of your Rockets. Bloomington Central Fox Valley conference play gets underway tonight with both the "Rasshng Warriors" of Marty Sobczak and the "Fighting Warriors" of Ken Ludwig taking on the Cary-Grove Trojans. The "Rasslim; Warriors" are now 2-2 on the season having lost to Mundelein and Harvard over the holidays. Bright spots for the veteran coach Sobczak is heavyweight Dan Mohnen who won both of his matches by pins. Splitting matches were Love at 138, Clewis at 185, Connor at 119 and Hunt at 145. With a good number to pick from this'fear it lodes as if the Warriors will do CMC on the mat. Ken Ludwig's Warriors will try and rebound from defeats by Sycamore and Belvidere. The Warriors were not too impressive in their opener against Sycamore, but did show some signs of spark in the second game against Belvidere. For you fans to remember, all conference games will start at 6 p.m. instead of the previous 6:30 p.m. This is something new, and will take time to get adjusted not only for you, but this reporter. The Sky hawks of Ben Beck took home the first place trophy at Marian Central last week. The Skyhawks are 3-0 for the season and are off to their best start in several years. Tom Ludwig, son of the Warrior basketball On The Sidelines By Dick Rabbitt only returning letterman to lead the Cary attack. Other players Condill will depend upon are; Eric McClellan a 6-foot-two forward, Jeff Block at 5- foot-six, Rick Vordermark another six-foot-two forward and Mike Mudra at an even six feet The Trojans are a little bigger than in past seasons, however their ball handling and shooting have caused them trouble in the past. After a rough time at the Sycamore tourney, Warrior Coach Ken Ludwig said, "we have to be more consistent on both ends of the flow. Saturday night the Warriors open the home season against an old rival, the Grant Bulldogs from Fox Lake. Grant is 2-1, defeating Hononegah of Rockton and Woodstock 45-43, while dropping a 39-38 contest to Harvard in the Harvard tourney. The Bulldogs are under the leadership of Tom Maple and are not expected to be a serious threat in the Northwest Suburban Conference this season. But one never knows what to expect from the Bulldogs. Several years ago they were in the same position and when the final bell rung/ the Bulldogs were at the top of the heap. DICK RABBITT The McHenry Warrior basketball team will open its Fox Valley Con ference season tonight traveling to Cary to take on the Trojans. Both teams are looking for their first win of the season. The Warriors are 0-2, while the ^Trojans of Jim Condill are 0-3 after ? the holiday tourneys. The two ,teams '.split a pair last season; the Trojans {winning the opener 61-51 and the Catholic, who defeated the Rockets in overtime 17-10, really put it to Casey High School in the 2A finals by the tune of 38-0. Yes indeed the Rockets were the second best in 2A. This is the time of the year when our good FOX VALLEY CONFERENCE 1*81-82 FINAL •.
