TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of December 26, 1957) A beautiful Christmas card with message was received from Rev. Fr. John J. McGowan, former assistant pastor at St. Patrick's church, McHenry. He mentions receiving the Plaindealer each week and especially enjoys reading about the boys he formerly coached who are now active on the Warrior basketball team. Guy Chamberlain, 18, lost his left index finger in an unusual accident. The young man told sheriff's deputies he was loading a 20 gauge bolt action, single barreled shotgun. We invite people over to our house for a party too." A third grader, Charles Wegener, said "It's a day of giving and receiving love. My grandparents come to our house for a party, too." PAGE 13 - PLAINDEALER McHenry Woman In Commercial An account of Kathy Klotz's ap pearance Tuesday, Dec. 14, on the Today show appeared in last Friday's issue of the Plaindealer, but the lady in the commercial was inadvertently referred to by another name. The real story is that a few weeks ago Kathy Klotz, of 2815 N. Chapel Hilll road, McHenry, was working with no thought of attaining recognition before the camera. All of that is changed today since she was selected as one of three midwest women to make a com mercial for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Mrs. Klotz calls it a "fluke" that she was chosen. Since last August she has been employed by McHenry Manufac turing, a firm that makes blouses and slacks. She had only been a union member for a few weeks when the opportunity came. When she was asked, as the third WEDNESDAY. DECEMBER 15,1982 choice of another employee, to go 10 Chicago for the company she. thought it was concerned with hearing com mercials and in their serlection. Instead, she soon found a script in her hand and was asked, along with 25 others, to read. Some time later she was informed of her selection, with two others, to go to New York City to make a commercial. It took her just 12 "takes" in filming, and she knew the third and fourth were the best. The experts agreed, and it was one nf those thousands saw when the com mercial aired on the Today show on Channel 5 Dec. 14. Her 12 "takes" compare with 95 for one of the other contestants. Differences between good and bad managers do not hinge entirely on intel lectual capabilities, but on a number of personal factors as well. In fact, many suc cessful business executives graduated from college with 'C' averages.
