This is the second year of this program. The form printed below is to be used for nominating graduates of McHenry high school for this recognition program. Persons wishing to nominate individuals for this award must complete this form for each individual nominated. Upon receiving the completed nomination forms, an effort will be made to contact the graduate or his- her family for additional biographical information. The nomination information will then be screened by a committee made up of yig com munity representatives who will decide which nominees will receive recogniton as distinguished graduates. A maximum of five persons ) living or deceased) may be selected by the committee. To be considered for the award, a person must be a gradual j of at least 15 years. Those nominees who did not receive the Distinguished Graduate award last year will remain in consideration again this year. Those graduates selected for this award will be honored at the Academic Recognition dinner scheduled for April 20. A picture and list of accomplishments will be hung in a hall of each school. In addition, each person so honored will receive a small plaque in recognition of this tribute. Last year, four Distinguished Graduates were selected from 15 nominations by the public. Those selected were Thomas A. Bolger, class of 1902; Dr. William Nye, class of 1925; John Albin Anderson, Jr., class of 1926; and Adele Froehlich, class of 1936. Persons wishing to obtain additional nomination forms may request copies from Norb Wolter, who may be reached at 385-7900. Completed forms must be received by Thursday, Dec. 30, to be eligible for consideration. These forms should be directed to Wolter's attention at 3926 West Main street, McHenry. State Facilities Affected By Rain Persons planning on using state parks and conservation areas in the coming days should call ahead to determine whether recent rains have closed the facilities, advises the Illinois Department of Conservation. High water has forced the DOC to close or curtail activities at many sites across the state. Facilities located along the river bottoms have been most affected by rapidly rising waters, points out Charles L. Tam- minga, associate director, Lands and Historic Sites. "Conditions change daily, of course, and we urge citizens to phone ahead before making any recreation plans," Tamminga said. "Hunters are especially encouraged to check ahead to make sure that their prospective hunting site hasn't been inundated." DOC's regional supervisors reported that on Dec. 7, these con ditions prevailed at local sites: Moraine Hills State park: Some flodding reported but the park remains open for picnicking. Chain-O-Lakes State park: The controlled pheasant hunting program »is unaffected byjhe flooding. Cam pers are reminded; however, that the area is normally closed each year to campers during the hunting season. Volo Bog: The boardwalk is flooded but the park remains open to visitors. Police Benefit Contributions McHenry Police Chief George Pasenelli, City Clerk Barb Gilpin, council members and numerous police officers were present at the McHenry Moose Lodge No. 691 Saturday, Dec. 4, to receive checks for the purchase of bullet-proof vests. A total of $6,000 is needed to fully outfit the department in vests. A check for $1,500 was presented by Governor John Barry on behalf of the officers and members of the lodge. A check for $50 was presented on behalf of the Women of the Moose by Lilly Ann Baker, senior regent, who also donated a check of $25 from the VFW Women's auxiliary. Frank and Evelyn Ficek of the Polish Legion of American Vetrans, Liberty Post No. 188 added to the cause with a check for $50 from their members, making a total of $1,625. 'v
