Edelstein Crotcho macho is this TV season's rage. But back when Magnum was wondering who he was going to take to the junior prom and Matt Houston's feet couldn't reaclrthe- gas pedal, there were these two guys -- Napoleon Solo and llya Kuryakin -- running around the screen who were the epitome of TV macho cool. They were suave, humorous, yet deadly efficient as they battled a consortium of international baddies -- and nary did they bare their chests to impress the gals. They were the men from UNCLE -- the United Network Command for Law Enforcement -- a combination CIA, Mossad, Secret Service and Interpol. If NBC hadn't canceled the series in January 1968, the good guys most definitely would have won the Cpld War. Well there's good news! The duo will be coming back -- at least for one night early next year when CBS airs "The Man from UNCLE -- the 15 Years Later Affair," a two- hour movie to be produced by Michael Sloan Productions in association with Viacom. One of the reasons the show is coming back is because it has enjoyed a cult following, not unlike that of "Star Jrek." "UNCLE" is still popular in reruns and also has an active international fan club. Robert Vaughn and David McCallum will reprise their roles as agents Solo and Kuryakin. Both stars attended a recent press conference in New York to announce the project (where Napoleons, natch, were served). Since the show left the air, Vaughn has done an about- :ace: In most of his subsequent TV roles, he's played stee- ly-eyed nasties. While McCallum, who went on to perform in legitimate theater, admitted that he's still best-remem bered for being the turtlenecked agent with the blond, Beatlesque locks. But the tight-lipped duo wouldn't reveal the plot of the new drama. McCallum deadpanned, though, that "Robert doesn't have the same energy he had 15 years ago." So one can only speculate on how the men from UNCLE will fare in the 1980s. The world has become a more dangerous place, for sure. Acts of international ter rorism have eclipsed the fantasy plots hatched by Thrush, Uncle's nemesis. UNCLE'S sophisticated bugging devices have become ho-hum material in this post-Watergate age. And the elaborate security precautions the agents needed to enter the secret UNCLE headquarters (a tailor shop on Manhattan's East Side) are now used by half the office buildings in major American cities. So what feats of derring-do can the UNCLE men per form in 1983? How can they save Western civilization? Well, maybe for starters, they can teach a thing or two about women, wine and the world to Lee Horsley, Bruce Boxleitner and all the other pretenders in today's TV macho brigade (c)l982Ccmpulog El Show do Alba Molina Q) Christmas Rome 1982 8) (3$ Jim Bakkor 60 3D Rat Patrol t£i£j Psychic Phenomena 60 NUckl Haskel 12:15 AM CD Christmas Songs CD MOVIE: Knightriders' 12:30AM G NBC News Overnight O MOVIE: 1 Remember Mama' A Norwegian family with a wise in domitable mother establishes a home in San Francisco.
