PAGE 14 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY SUCCfcSS MARKS WORKFARE (Continued from page 1) Assistance figures since last February and the money he said was "worked off" through Workfare. He emphasized that Workfare does not lessen the General Assistance load op the taxpayer. Instead, it is aimed at accomplishing work for non-profit groups and at the same time restoring the pride of those recipients, who, through no fault of their own, are unable to support themselves and their families. Below are the figures Jor the 11- month period, showing General Assistance money allowed by the supervisor and the amount worked off through the Workfare program. SET MULTIPLIER AT 1.9155 (Continued from page 1) equalization factor for the county was 1.R704. The tentative factor is subject to change (1) if the County Board of Review takes actions which significantly affect the county assessments or (2) if local officials or others can present data showing that the Department of Revenue's estimates of the average level of assessments in the county should be adjusted. A public hearing on the tentative multiplier will be held between 20 and 30 days after the tentative factor is published. A change in the equalization factor does not mean total property tax bills will increase or decrease. Tax bills are determined by local taxing bodies when they request money each year to provide services to local citizens. If the amount requested by local taxing districts is no greater than the amount received in the previous year, then total property taxes will not increase even if assessments may have in creased. The assessed value of an individual property determines what portion of the tax burden a specific taxpayer will assume. That individual's portion^ of tax responsibility is not changed by the multiplier. ^ Medical Charge In Indictment I SHAW MEDIA NEWS SERVICE A two-count indictment was returned Tuesday against a Lake Zurich woman charged with providing pre-natal care and attention. If you'll remember these quick tips, you'll have a perfect cup time after time: Begin with fresh cold water; bring it to a boil. You can brew tea by the cup or mug, or in a teapot. If you heat these first with boiling water, you'll have better tea. Next, pour boiling water over tea bag(s) in the cup or teapot.* Choose a hearty tea such as Irish Breakfast, English Teatime, or one of the pleasant teas flavored with mint, lemon or cinnamon. Or, you may prefer an herbal tea. They're delightful, soothing...and caffeine- free. Most tea bags make two cups. A tea bag of Constant Comment, the original orange and spice tea, makes two to three cups when brewed in a teapot. Steep tea by the clock, not by color. Brew about 5 minutes. Remove tea bag(s). What's the best way to enjoy tea? Drink it any way you like, we say. Add sugar, honey or sweeteners. Some people like lemon; others, milk. But if you drink the lovely, flavored teas or herbals "as is," they're vir tually calorie-free. BnAn A WELCOME "TICKET"-No, this isn't the usual ticket a police officer might be writing. Instead, Bill Stahlman, president of the McHenry Police Officers association, recognizes Phil Gust, chief of the McHenry Rescue squad, in another way. He writes a check in the amount of $250, a gift to the squad from proceeds from association-sponsored events held in McHenry in recent months.
