r PAGE 8 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, 'JANUARY 19,1983 Second Shutout Changes Philosophy Of 'Hawk Wrestlers Don March, coach of the Johnsburg wrestling team, has changed his philosophy about his varsity team and the rest of his program. Jfjis new philosophy came on the heels of a 69-0 thrashing by Grant Saturday. "We are going to concentrate on our freshmen and develop our program," explained March. "We just can't compete in the Northwest Suburban Conference right now." The Skyhawks are now winless in five starts in the conference and 5-9-1 overall. The Grant shutout was the second one for the Skyhawk team. Earlier in the season, Antioch stunned Johnsburg 69-0. "We have been wrestling freshmen and sophomores at the varsity level just to fill all the weight classes and ends up discouraging the kids," said March. "We're cutting our own throats by doing this. We are going to de-emphasize our varsity with con ference schools and then emphasize the varsity against non-conference schools. "At the beginning of the year, all our wins came from schools our own size. I thought we had a good thing going. To be successful in this con ference, you need 50 kids out, or else you are in a lot of trouble." The only bright spots March could see in the loss to Grant was the per formances of Mike Hurckes and Mark Dumelle. Hurckes lost his match to Todd Jenkins in the 138 pound match 8-2. Dumelle, meanwhile, was pinned by Jim Dimwidde in the 155 pound match at 5:25. - March named freshmen wrestler, John Biederman, as wrestler of the week. He defeated a undefeated fresh men wrestlier during the Grant match. Correction In a feature on Rich mond's wrestler Paul Vogel in the Jan. 12 issue of the Plaindealer, the word ties was in correctly used in his record. The line said he had a record of 15-0 and 11 of the wins were ties. The word ties should have been Dins. Two different short forms this year. H&R Block can uncomplicate them for you.
