" Benjamin Franklin 'X BUDDY'S WORKSHOP Carpet Care Requires More Than Vacuum I am a full-time housewife and 1 vacuum the entire hou se at least twice a week. The other night while my husband and I were hosting a party, a friend asked me how long it had been since I had my rugs professionally cleaned. 1 couldn't give her an answer, because I don't remember. If you vacuum on a regular basis and the carpets retain their good looks is profession! cleaning needed? Cleaning, other than°regular use of a vacuum, is need ed. Vacuuming removes loose litter and dust but, with both time and wear, dirt becomes imbedded in the carpet by foot traffic and is not removed by a vacuum cleaner. Imbedded dirt will only be removed by shampooing. You can buy shampoo in a small spray can and do the job by hand or rent a commercial shampooing machine from a hardware store. With the spray can, you simply spray the carpet, one section at a time, work the shampoo in with a sponge, let dry and vacuum. The machine is better. The machine dispenses the shampoo as rotating brushes work it into the carpet. The rental cost is reasonable and the machine does a better job, but the drying time is longer -- a matter of several hours. YOU'VE HEARD OF AIRPORT CARPORT ANYPORT IN A STORM BUT WHAT'S A FARMPORT?
