It's also one of the best films of the year Along with Hoffman's superb performance, every­ thing goes right in this film. All the other performances are top-notch, especially those of Terri Garr and Jessica Lange Dabney Coleman basically reprises his chauvinistic pig persona from "9 to 5." and veteran Charles Durning has the misfortune to fall for the YURKO charms of Dustin Hoffman in his female attire. Bill Murray's role is small but hysterical. Hoffman is thrown into this peculiar situation because he cannot find work as a male actor. He plays a chronically unemployed actor who takes drastic action -- dressing as a woman -- to land a role on a soap opera. This situation pre­ sents some awkward moments in his personal as well as proy • fessional life y' Under the capable hande of screenplay writers Murray Schisgal and Larry Gelbart, these awkward moments are not only funny but delightfully perceptive about the relation­ ships of men and women.
