Well three cheers for her this time! She and her daughter Sandy were there to help firemen and a neighbor when fire gutted their home. iti They brought coffee to the firemen and rescue squad who were fighting the blaze. Not many people go out of their way to help anyone nowadays and I think they did a fine deed. A Sunnyside resic' FIRE GUTS HOME On Monday Jan. 17, the home/of the Roger Thompson family) was destroyed when fire compi gutted the house. Fire fighters from Johnsburg McHenry and Spring Grove answere the call around 11 a.m.; also, mem bers of the Johnsburg Rescue squad. Mr. Thompson was taken to the McHenry ER for treatment of minor burns and released. Others from the household were out at the time of the fire. Some 40 firemen were called out "GGOUUn-UPS DEED Recess, TOO." and worked about three hours to extinguish the blaze. Dense smoke made their job difficult. A word of praise to the firefighters and rescue squad who are on the scene so fast and do such a great job. We have a ten dency to take these people for gran ted, but when they are needed, they are there. The home was a total loss with an estimated $50,000 damage. A& few small items were all that was salvaged from the fire. Also on hand were members of the McHenry County Sherriff's depart-" ment, who directed traffic •aujjkept the area clear for emerge? vehicles. Commonwealth Edison Ni-Gas were called to shut off the gas and electric power to prevent danu ̂ to other homes. The home is lpCatc on the Fox river at 4016 Riverview. VETERANS In a rare decision, the Veterans Administration's Board of Veterans Appeals recently ruled that a veteran's skin cancer was linked to radiation he received in 1955 while on duty at a Nevada atomic test site. Over 200,000 U.S. troops were exposed to radiation in more than 200 nuclear tests in the southwestern United States and the Pacific between the end of World War II and the 1963 partial test ban treaty. Some 2,000 veterans of atomic testing have filed disability claims but the government has ap proved only slightly more than a dozen. 1983 DINNER THEATER Running weekends of February 11,18 and 25 "ACCOMMODATIONS" Ticket Prices:Fri & Sundays $14 per person Saturdays...$l7 per person Group rates available for 25 persons or more (Fri & Sun Only) Fg & Sat Dinner 6:30pm Showtime 8:30 pm Sundays Dinner 1:30pm Showtime 3:30pm -UPCOMING DINNER THEATERS- MARCH "COME BLOW YOUR HORN" GIFT CERTIFICATES FOR DINNER AND DINNER THEATRE NOW AVAILABLE Daily Evening Specials MON.
