Half the population of Jordan lives in or commutes every day to Amman, which is growing at a record pace as it becomes a key c o m m e r c i a l a n d financial center of the Middle East." SOME WISK WOltDS FOR WINTER DRIVING Racing your car engine when one or both drive wheels are stuck in snow, ice or mud can do serious damage to your tires. The force can even cause a free- spinning wheel to disintegrate. One of the wisest steps you can take for winter driving is to equip your car with appropriate tires. Many cities and counties have "snow e m e r g e n c y " r u l e s which are invoked during heavy snowfalls. Under some of these r u l e s , m o t o r i s t s a r e subject to fine if their cars aren't equipped with snow tires and block traffic. You can avoid this problem by equipping your car with tires m a r k e d " m u d a n d snow" or "M-S" on the sidewall. This means the tires comply with v o l u n t a r y i n d u s t r y standards for design of snow tires. The all- season radial tire is an alternative in most regions of the country. It provides increased traction in snowy as well as rainy weather. It a l s o s a v e s m a k i n g -seasonal changeovers. The tire experts at Uniroyal advise, if you change to snow tires, that you be sure they match the size and construction of the car's o t h e r t i r e s . F o r i n stance, if you have radials on the front, don't put bias or belted bias snow tires on the rear. It could cause s e r i o u s h a n d l i n g d i f ficulties. If yours is a front- wheel drive car, the snow tires go up front. Rear-wheel drive takes the snow tires on the rear. If you're considering studded snow tires for added traction, you'll need them on all four wheels of front-wheel drive vehicles. If you use chains, be sure they're the proper size for your tires. Other wise, they could damage the sidewalls and even cause tire failure. Editor o Quote Book Lots of folks confuse bad management with destiny.
