WALSH So I Hear 1-19-83 1 V.ir S1H.: Arising and making ready for the day brought the realization there is definitely a need for computer programming aid for the elderly and absentminded. Just in the area of finding and donning the necessary items of clothes and spare parts, it would be the helping hands that we have been led to believe the computer will furnish Just a random thought. Those blamed things will soon be regulating our lives. 1 have a computer of my own. When 1 select a mismatch of shirt and tie, she lets me know right away. No machine necessary. Here comes another diet buster. Norm Lobitz came a-callin' with tickets for the Zion Lutheran annual roast beef dinner coming along Feb. 13. Norm has his own computer. Two $4.50 tickets for $12.00. When 1 threatened to tell his Pastor, he came back with, "I just came from A1 Phannenstill's and that's the way he figures". Huh! That depends on whether A1 is buying or selling. We had a laugh and I have the tickets tucked away. At our house, we have been in terested in Dick Rosing's recovery from surgery. The word we get is that he is doing fine. €> I think back to Dick's high school days when Coach Gerald Reed spoke highly of Dick's willingness to give 100 percent in his athletic endeavors. I go back a ways and so do my memories. "Aunt Lil" passed away just a few- days after I mentioned her in this column. She was Lillian (Schaefer) Petersen, a great girl who would have reached her 93rd birthday next month. How glad I am that I called Lil. Her voice was strong and uncomplaining. She had been hospitalized, but was The McHenry Plaindealer 3112 West Elm Street (USP*33ft2-#99t) Established 187S McHenry Illinois 400SO Phono il5 3*5 0170 PublitHod Ivory Wedneidoy t Friday at McHonry Illinois Second Clots Postage PAIO of McHonry Illinois by M<HCNIY PUBLISHING COMPANY POSTMASTER Sond oddross chongos to McHon/y Ploindoolor MI2W Elm St McHonry Illinois 40050 Subscribors oro requested to provide immodioto notico of chongo of od dross to Tho McHonry Ploindoolor 3612 W Elm St McHonry. Gathering for lunch after the funeral, conversation brought out some humorous recollections. * Marilyn told of a time when her parents were planning a trip. Not agreeing on the place to travel, her father said, "OK, I'll take you on a trip around the world". "No", said her mother "I'd rather go someplace else". (Maybe she had the moon in mind.) A real fine letter from our long time friend Clayton Bruce tells of a high class Tennessee trooper who assisted him on his way home from Florida. I'm sure that Clayton mixed this column with Musin' and Meandering as he compares his experience with KAF's experience with a couple of Village policemen. To keep the records straight, she had kind words for our McHenry police as she reported not so pleasant treatment elsewhere. Clayton and his wife lost their trailer in an accident on Eagle Mt. 40 miles north of Chattanooga. The Trooper handled all their problems, took Mrs. Bruce 12 miles back to a hospital, then came to see them in their motel to see if they were OK or needed anything. Clayton called it good old Southern hospitality. What's his name --I got it! Arnold "St. Joseph" Rauen and I had a great lot of fun at lunch at Snug Harbor Saturday. The history of the place came up and Arnold decided he might find some old items in his late father's papers. The next night at Bimbo's the same snl»|eet came up as Jack Kelsey, John Itaumgartncr. Fred Meyer and Ihetr Indies Fair were trying lo recollect places and events in McHenry's history. "Jake The Bake" had some memories. The name Schimel came up. Well do I remember when the building was just a shack and Schimel drew the foamy stuff. Old pictures of the place and history will some day unfold. Jack Kelsey told of a stranger hitting town and asking an Old Timer if he lived here all his life. "Not yet," was the reply. Testimonial For Geo. HELP! Now is the time to prepare with professional help In the early days of s t e a m s h i p s , t h e problem was to carry enough coal for long trips and still have room for passengers and cargo. The McHenry county chapter of the Illinois Audubon society will be holding its annual meeting and potluck dinner Saturday night, Jan. 29, in the Nature center of Veteran Acres park in Crystal Lake. The center is located at 330 North Main street, just off Route 176. Supper will be served at 6:30 p.m., with participants bringing their own eating utensils, beverage and a dish to pass. The annual meeting will consist of a brief business session with reports from officers and committees. Following the business meeting, a slide program entitled "Loondance" will be presented. This slide program, furnished by the Wisconsin Depart ment of Natural Resources, gives the audience a chance to view this seldom-seen bird at close range without endangering an already threatened species. Loons, duck broods and other wildlife often drown in a boat's wake, die of exhaustion from stress, or lose their young to predators while defending their nests from well- intentioned nature lovers, according to Barbara Meding, president of the chapter. In addition, the Walt Disney classic film "Nature's Half Acre" will give a close look at the deeming life on a small plot of ground, showing the relationships of birds and insects in nature's system of balances. The program and potluck are open not only to Audubon society members but also to interested members of the public and are free of charge. £ Hai rdressers Meet The Illinois Hairdressers & Cosmetologists Association Affiliate 47 will hold its monthly meeting Feb 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. The program will be the views and concepts of the affiliate Hair Fashion committee on the new spring and summer trend release. YOUR PRESCRIPTION Q. We're going on a trip. If I lose my medicine or I need a refill, what do I have to' do? A. Because most states will not allow a pharmacy to accept a prescription written by a n o u t - o f - s t a t e physician, you would have to contact a local doctor to get *"te new prescription. For this reason, our advice is to plan ahead and take along enough of your medicine to last until you return home Also, pack all medicines in the personal luggage you keep with you at all times--don't check it through on an airplane or ship. If your trip is to another country, this advice is even more important since the medicine prescribed for you may not be available in a foreign country. To be safe, it would be a good idea to take along a record of all the in formation typed on the label of your prescription vial and add the name of the manufacturer, too. Your pharmacist can supply that information for you. Then, if your medicine does get lost, the local physician will know exactly what product must be replaced. •Hunger Proof •Delicious Meals •Failureproof •Trained Supervision •Rapid Weight Loss (often up to a pound per day!) ^ 00 00 ON nW I 00 CALL TODAY FOR A>FRE£, NO-OBLIGATION CONSULTATION 20% OFF 20% OFF 20% OFF Present this coupon at the Crystal Lake Nutri/System Weight Loss Medical Center ana we will deduct 20°c OFF the cost ot your program.
